Lovely hotel with a character, made up from a number of buildings. Beautiful garden in a courtyard, quaint breakfast area. Rooms are bright, reasonable sized, modern, clean, and tastefully decorated. Bed was comfortable. Staff is helpful and accommodating.

Rooms were average size, clean and Wifi works well. It was still fairly warm so had AC on and it got cold. The best part for me is the breakfast area. It's outside in the garden. The food was good and staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

I just returned from my 6th stay at Hotel Porta San Mamolo over the last 7 years. It is located on a tiny street just at the edge of the Centro Storico of Bologna, but walking within the center is an attracting in and of itself: the medieval churches, the imposing palaces, the porticos, and of course, the food markets... The hotel is made up from a number of old quintessentially Bolognese buildings that overlook a central courtyard garden. Breakfast is served in a lovely garden room next to the courtyard. My only observation on the otherwise excellent continental breakfast was that there was no wholemeal bread (which we prefer as we are both diabetic). Our room was air-conditioned and comfortable,... Not sure how many little houses have been cobbled together to form this hotel. But, like many European hotels one can clearly see reconstruction to form one. I thought the interiors to be shabby-chic, my wife liked it and thought them cute. Our first room (203) was like a monk's cell. We moved into 205 and were much more comfortable.... More

We had a delightful stay at this hotel. It is in a very quiet location. The staff were excellent and very prompt in attending to any requests. We had a large room overlooking the garden. It was very comfortable and well appointed. Free WI FI was available. The continental breakfast was very good. This can be brought to your room... More

Hotel Porta San Mamolo is the most unusual little hotel, quirky with such tasteful decor throughout. It is central but tucked away in a quiet, narrow street. The buffet breakfasts are excellent and the staff so helpful. After a long day of sightseeing, to sit in the small courtyard before going out for an evening meal, is so relaxing, surrounded... More

Bologna is a wonderful city. An absolute medieval gem.It seems to revolve around food, is relatively cheap and even in the height of summer, not too touristy. There are not a huge amount of hotels to choose from (especially in the compact old centre) and they tend to be privately run rather than big chains - which suits the town.... More

We came from Lausanne in Switzerland with our small Jack Russell dog and stayed for three nights. Although the room was a little dated, it was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and our room faced a little courtyard which was lovely and green. The breakfast was very good and the staff were... More

We stayed here for four nights. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had room 204 and could not wish for more, it had a private balcony overlooking the quiet garden. Would highly recommend this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to use it again.
