We stayed at Hotel Golden last year and had to go back. Once again, it was great. The owners are wonderful and provide a personalized experience. They are located in a nice, quiet neighborhood surrounded by 5 star hotels, but I bet you won't get the 5 star service that you get with Guiseppe and his family. We will stay there again and again.
We were very happy with this reservation! It is in a great location, close enough to the attractions but far enough away for a peaceful sleep. The owner was very gracious and fluent in English. He gave us tips on local restaurants and transportation, always welcoming. The room was comfortable with the amenities we needed… breakfast is available for those who want that. There is an exceptional coffee shop right next door and a restaurant across the street. We were thrilled with our choice and highly recommend it!
Guilespe was very easy to communicate with. We knew coming into this huge city we were going to be somewhere safe with someone who could help us out if needed. Months before our arrival he arranged airport pick up and drop off. This made it so easy after a long flight from the states. Check in was simple and the room was so much larger than others we have stayed at. The location is great and quiet but we were able to walk to all the sights in Rome. The Vatican, coliseum, Spanish steps and more.
This was a very nice small family run hotel near the city center. The staff is extremely helpful especially Giuseppe who will respond to your emails and help arrange transportation to from the airport and or the port. It was clean, and I felt safe walking around the area at night and walked from the hotel to the Spanish steps, down to the Trevi fountain, over to the pantheon, and to a hop on hop off bus, and then ended several blocks from the hotel when I was ready to come back. The wall behind the hotel is 3000 years old and the sculpture is 2000 years old. I would definitely stay here again. The Loria family genuinely cares about their patrons.
My daughter in law recommended this Hotel. When you stay at the Hotel Golden you become part of the family. Giuseppe will help you with tours, restaurants, and taxis. Even told us about a Lab to test before taking our cruise. Breakfast was always a good way to start the day. Great choice for our Rome trip, highly recommend.
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Golden October 19 & 20th 2022 pre-cruise and the hotel has really changed since our stay in 2017. I wanted to post this review because I know a lot of people stay there because of the very welcoming family that runs the hotel and for the convenience of them providing transportation to the port for a cruise. We booked a Superior Double Room with a king bed and a homemade breakfast buffet was included. I wanted to stay here because our visit in 2017 was so nice, so I booked this stay over a year in advance. I also booked their transportation service from the Rome Airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise port. I cannot tell you how many times I have recommend this hotel to fellow cruisers on Cruise Critic and friends because of this service. Problem number 1 - When arriving at the Rome airport my driver was not there. I looked up and down and was not able to find the driver so I called the hotel and they told me that my driver had canceled and that they had another guest that flew in right before me and they have agreed to share their van. They gave me directions to find their driver. I was grateful they had a solution but why didn’t they call me or send a text and let me know so I didn’t spend time looking all over and stressing out? Problem number 2 - I had recommend three couples stay there in a couple of weeks so I quickly let them know to make sure they had the phone number to the hotel available if they don’t see their driver. One of the future guests decided to reconfirmed their transportation request with the hotel and told them they were concerned due to what happened with us - the hotel told her it was not true - that they have never had a driver not show up! Fortunately the person knows me and knows who is telling the truth. Problem number 3 - When I checked into my room it was not a Superior Double Room with a king bed as described on their website. I had been downgraded. By this time we were so tired from the long travel and stress at the airport that we just accepted it. The room was small but it was clean. But it was a very noisy room. You could hear outside street noise, in the morning you could hear cooking in the kitchen and customers walking in the hall and talking while eating breakfast, but the worst was people yelling at each other about 11:00 at night. With one exception the welcoming family atmosphere was gone too. How did I get downgraded when I booked over a year in advance? Problem number 4 - we were to receive a homemade breakfast which was absolutely delicious and a fun experience on our first visit and you just got up within a time frame and had your breakfast. This time they put a piece of paper in the room on a table that said you had to let them know the night before if you wanted breakfast and that the cost was 20 euros each, plus coffee was extra. We did not see the piece of paper, and they did not tell us about this change when we checked in. So when we went for breakfast in the morning it was all closed. That is when they told us about the piece of paper in our room, but they did offer us croissants and coffee. So now we have been downgraded and did not receive a homemade breakfast. Problem number 5 - The hotel offered a private van or shared transportation to the cruise port as other guests were also going to the port. I booked private because we had 6 pieces of luggage. But, when I checked with them the night before he said they have been having problems with drivers not showing up (I guess it has happened before) or raising their prices so high that the hotel canceled them. But he was able to book a private car not a van because I didn’t want to share. I told him I don’t mind sharing if it helps, but again I told him I have 6 pieces of luggage. He said he had one van that only had three people booked so I told him that is okay as long as my luggage fits. So he explained the process is the vans show up, he calls your room, you checkout and they load the luggage for you and once the van is full it leaves. No problem with that. So, the morning comes we get the call they load our luggage in a van - two pieces of our luggage did not fit in back but no problem we took the two carryons and put them by our feet. There were only three other passengers. But the van was full and we kept sitting there. There were several customers standing outside waiting for a van. Then all of a sudden one of the other customers (a women) came to our van and started screaming at me saying that I stole her van with my 7 pieces of luggage and I won’t get out. I told her I didn’t know what she was talking about and that the staff was responsible for putting me here. She went back to stand by the staff/family member. The staff/family member heard her screaming at me (he was standing near by) and did nothing to come and calm her down or explain what the problem was. Then a customer in my van was getting upset because our van was full and we were not leaving and they had specifically requested to be gone by 9:30 and it was now 10:10. So this customer gets out of the van and ask the staff/family member why we are still sitting there and another customer starts yelling at him and pushing him and then several people are yelling and pulling the two customers apart. This is all happening in the middle of the street in front of the hotel. This was the worst experience I have ever had and everyone in our van was shaken by it. I know the hotel staff/family is not responsible for the customer’s behavior, but they did absolutely nothing to calm them down. At a minimum they should have communicated what the problem was. Why was our van just sitting there? Why was the woman so upset? All of this happened with only a two night stay. I don’t think we will be back and we will definitely not recommend this hotel in the future.…
Hotel Golden was recommended to us by friends. This is a small family owned and run hotel. We had corresponded with Giuseppe quite a few times and he was extremely helpful in giving us with restaurant recommendations, taxis, etc. if you want more of a Roman experience, stay at Hotel Golden!
At the start of August my family stayed at Hotel Golden with the Loria family. Even before we arrived Giuseppe was in contact recommending tours and trips to enhance our Rome experience. This personal touch certainly was in keeping with the reviews that I had read which, in turn, was a large part of why I booked this hotel. the hotel is not your typical hotel with large reception area etc. it is a small intimate setting in a quiet part of the city but offers huge rewards for those that get to stay here. Giuseppe is an absolutely fantastic host and will help you with every aspect of your trip. I don't need to get into specifics as nothing is too much trouble for him. If/when we visit Rome again we will definitely be staying here again.
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Golden for four nights this past June. This was our third time staying at the Hotel Golden and as always Giuseppe and his family took such very good care of us. From arranging transportation from the airport and to the port, to giving us all of the fantastic local knowledge that helped us find all that Rome has to offer and avoid some of the local tourist traps. The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. A breakfast is included that gets your day off to s great start. Definitely recommend!!!
My husband and I just came back from our second stay at Hotel Golden. Giuseppe and his family made our recent visit as delightful as the first time. The hotel is on a quiet corner around the block from Villa Borghese. The Spanish Steps are less than 10 minutes away. Taxis are close, buses too, as well as the metro. Need help getting somewhere or need advice on what to see or where to get the best gelato? Ask Giuseppe and the staff. They are extremely knowledgeable and truly happy to help. The breakfast is extra, but you'll be missing out if you skip it. Mama Theresa's cooking is AMAZING. I love the personal touches. We experienced Mama Theresa's tiramisu on our first trip. We raved about it so much she made it special for us - even though it's summer and she doesn't normally make it this time of year. And yes, it was amazing a second time! The rooms are comfortable and always spotless; the AC works great in the summer! We can't wait to go back again.…
