The hotel was basic and so were the rooms. The reason I have given 4 star is on the grounds of price versus convenience. The hotel room itself was comfortable and clean although a little grubby in bits. Tiled floors and basic shower but no kettle. The breakfast was cereal and Danish buns and bread freshly made. There was a... More

Booked this hotel for 3 night stay but after checking out the room which was a dark dingy hole decided to go elsewhere the photos you see are not what you get and these photos must have been taken years ago or they are photo shopped . The man who was checking us in could only grunt and was not... More

I booked this hotel for 4 nights and I was really worried about staying there after reading some of the reviews. I wasn't expecting any luxuries as I only paid £140 for the whole stay. I was very pleasantly surprised when we got to the hotel with how utterly lovely the staff were and how spacious and clean our room... More

I was quite nervous to stay here after i read the reviews but we had booked a non refundable room. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by Max. He was great. The hotel seemed old but totally fine. We paid the extra for the air conditioning which we were well informed of on the site we were booking. Our... More

Okay, folks. This is not a luxury hotel, but it doesn't purport to be. It IS conveniently located, well staffed, clean, and accommodating. When we booked online we were forced to select two triple rooms for our family of 6, but when we arrived they were able to fit us all into a family room. Yes, of course this room... More

We booked this hotel for 3 nights and were horrified by the state of the hotel. It was dark, dingy, dated and absolutely filthy. We refused to pay on arrival - and lucky we did as we walked out 10 minutes later. The room was dingy and despite requesting a room with air conditioning, we were told on check in... More

Hotel Altavilla was worth of money. Cheap hotel in the center of Rome. Friendly staff, not luxury but filled our need for taking shower and have a good sleep. Simple breakfast, you must remember that there is lot of restaurants nearby who serves what you want. Again, room was very reasonable priced.

From the moment you enter this establishment you notice the saggy covered couches and dingy appearance. Up we go to the 3rd floor. Get off the elevator and the hallway is dark and crowded with broken and disused furniture. Enter our Family suite and lawwddy!!! One Double bed and three pull out/folded beds are STUFFED in a 10x10 area. The... More

We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children and booked this accommodation based on the price. I was a bit worried as I had read other reviews after I made the booking but actually our stay was very pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was big (2 double beds and one single) with a... More

I booked it without looking at any reviews. I was tired and just clicked book on hotels.com, I regret that decision. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Seriously. It is the worst hotel my husband has ever stayed in. On day two I saw a sock on the floor under the desk, I picked it up... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
