We booked this resort based off a recommendation from a family member and we couldn't be happier with our choice. My family and I were traveling to Italy and Greece for my Mom's birthday and Maurizio made our trip absolutely wonderful. Maurizio is one of the most friendly people I have ever met and booked some wonderful tours for us. I highly recommend the two tours he gives, Great Appian Way Tour and Unusual Maurizio's Old Rome tour. Maurizio and his team were very attentive and helped get us around Rome, recommended some amazing restaurants, and even helped me mail postcards to my friends. We also booked a private chef for my Mom's birthday which was probably the best meal I have ever had. Maurizio truly makes you feel like family when you arrive and takes care of you like family. If I ever make my way back to Rome, I will be staying at this resort again.

My husband and I had wanted to take a family vacation to Italy to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. For our children, this was their first trip to Italy. As far as my husband and I, we had been to Italy twice before. On the first trip, which was our honeymoon, we traveled to four cities, Rome being our second stop. We had stayed right in the bustling city, on a very busy street. This time, we had a completely different experience in Rome. We stayed at the Appia Antica Resort for six nights. We could not have been more pleased with our stay. Before we even left our home in New Jersey, Maurizio, the owner of the resort, personally contacted us, looking forward to our arrival. To begin, we can’t rave enough about how beautifully decorated our apartment was. It was decorated by Maurizio’s wife, Louisa, who is an interior decorator. It had a contemporary, yet, cozy feel. This apartment could easily be in a luxury high rise in New York City. We stayed in the Priscilla, which is a four bedroom, spacious apartment. What a wonderful retreat to come back to after a long day of sightseeing. The resort staff was friendly and accommodating. They provided us with countless recommendations so that we can get the most out of our days there. The apartment was kept immaculate by the efficient cleaning staff each day. The resort is in a prime location. A short drive into City Centre and walking distance from the magnificent Appian Way. There is also a bus stop and supermarket a few steps away. The highlight of our stay was having Maurizio personally take us around Rome. His knowledge and insight of this city is quite impressive. His personality and back stories makes him a joy to be around. To top off our day with Maurizio, we had a meal cooked and served in our apartment by an Italian Mamma. It was one of the best meals we had on our whole trip. That was truly the best way to end our Italian vacation. We look forward to the day when we can return to this amazing resort!! We would recommend this to all of our friends and family! The Petrosino Family- Tom, Pam, Darren, Kara & Brian

Dear Friends,Petrosino Family, what beautiful memories you left at Appia Antica Resort ... since your arrival, when we spoke about the famous Italian policeman Joe Petrosino, bearing your family name and all along your stay, sharing so many chats about Italy and America, sitting on our table in the garden... Your words are so kindly detailed, thank you so much for them ! You are right, the center of Rome is not the coolest place where to stay nowadays, because of the hustle and the bustle pervading it: even at night it is no longer quiet. The trendy place where to stay is the area located around the Ancient Appian Way, just inside the largest archaeological park in the world and at a few minutes from the Colosseum (only 30 minutes of jogging !). Three years ago the largest booking site in the world has declared Appia Antica Resort to be the accomodation N. 1 in our planet for families.... We do our best to give families a " Home away from Home", with our spotless apartments drawn and furnished by my wife Luisa ( by the way: why don't you take her to work in NYC for six months...? :-) ), with our daily assistance, with our precious suggestions, as only an old friend might do. We are happy only when we realize our guests could not have spent better their time in Rome, this is our mission. Furthermore, I like to spend time together with my guests, showing them the beauties of the Ancient Appian Way, around us, or sharing my knowledge of the Eternal City, going around the center with them, in a chatting walk, within 2.000 years of history. Have a nice time back to your daily life and let's hope we can see again soon. Ave atque Vale Maurizio - Owner

The hotel is clean, quiet, safe, and is located in a really interesting part of Rome. Paolo was extremely attentive, and steered us to a really nice restaurant walking distance along the Apian Way. Wish we could have stayed a bit longer, and we'll definitely be back again.

Maurizio and Paola could not have been more accommodating. Our only regret is we only had two nights to stay here. I cannot recommend dinner with Mama Edy highly enough. Also, it's super easy and cheap to get downtown. There is a bus stop right across the street with a newsstand next to it. Buy a bus ticket there which is also accepted on the trains, take the bus a couple of miles to the train station, then hop on the train and you're next to the Vatican in minutes.

Dear JRFTX, Thank you for your kind words. We too regret that you could stay with us only two nights but hopefully you had a wonderful time continuing on your trip and you’ll be back soon to tell us all about it. Ah, yes, Edi is a wonderful chef and the dinner she prepares can be served in the apartment or outside in the garden – which is perfect when the season permits it. It makes it for a lovely romantic dinner or a nice evening with friends. It’s a convenient way to eat at the level of a restaurant but without leaving the relax of our place, your home away from home. It’s true that travelling to the historical centre is also quite convenient: not only are we just a short 118 bus ride to the Colosseum but, as you kindly described, thanks to the 663 bus you can get to the metro and reach the Vatican easily. Our neighbourhood, “Quarto Miglio” (Fourth Mile in Italian), takes its name after the Fourth Mile of the Appian Way, the ancient Roman roads right behind us, which starts from the Colosseum and goes on to the south of Italy till Brindisi. Our neighbourhood is only at 6km from the Colosseum! A good jogger could actually get to the Colosseum in half an hour. … To all joggers reading us: this is not a challenge! …but feel free to come and try! Ave Atque Vale Maurizio – Owner

Long overdue review, but life got in the way after our return from our wonderful Italian/Greek vacation! My sister & I spent a couple of weeks on our trip, beginning & ending in Rome. We reserved our stay here for both the couple of nights before our cruise & the night after before our return home, and thoroughly enjoyed both of our stays. As all of the many wonderful reviews before have mentioned, Maurizio & Paola are a pleasure to work with from the moment that you inquire, through & even after your stay here. Everything is lovely, just as you expect from the many photos. Though our time in Rome was very brief, we thoroughly enjoyed our tours with Maurizio & really appreciated everything that he & Paola were able to arrange to squeeze into our small amount of time there. I definitely look forward to visiting again in the future & bringing my husband with me to further explore the beautiful place that is Rome. There is only one minor recommendation that I would make....the next time that you have the opportunity to upgrade/remodel your bathrooms, perhaps try to find a better solution to the sink/counter areas. The sinks that are there are lovely to look at, but quite oversized, allowing little space on the counters for guests toiletries & all toiletries are constantly wet from the unavoidable spray/splash from the sinks each & every time they are used, no matter how low you turn on the water. Other than that one very minor inconvenience, it was all wonderful, thanks Maurizio & Paola for everything!

Dear iamqueenme, Don’t think for a moment that we didn’t recognise you straight away. Because we most certainly did!  Thank you so very much for this beautiful review. I loved taking you around to show you the beauties of Rome and, in particular, of the Appian Way: it’s like using a time machine and going back to the time of the Ancient Romans, isn’t it? Paola and I took care of every reservation to tours and also restaurants. Nearby we have several lovely restaurants that offer amazing Italian – Roman! – cuisine at prices that are more convenient than those in the historical centre…though we can recommend some interesting places there as well. Paola and I both had a blast working with you planning your days in Rome. As you have seen, even with limited time together we were still able to plan a lovely stay. This is what we do: we tailor your stay according to your needs and time, so you can enjoy everything and not worry about missing something that you truly wanted to visit because you couldn’t find the time. We take the issues and leave you the fun. Thank you for your advice, we will keep it in mind when we’ll need to remodel it. In the meantime, we’ll just wait for you to come back with your husband and explore more of Rome. We all look forward to sharing the secrets of Rome with you and your family… a visit to the Castelli Romani could be an idea for your next holiday, for example lunch at Castel Gandolfo and a visit to the Pope’s summer residence? You could see the beauties outside the city as well as those inside the city. Ave Atque Vale Maurizio – Owner
