Below average. One of the worst 3 stars hotel i have seen. Room is rather small, furniture is old and ugly, our clothes stink after few days of keeping them in the closet. Bed is very uncomfortable. For the whole time we could hear noises from corridor and other rooms. AC is ok, but internet is a joke, poor signal...

It was a big hotel with one working elevator for customers, stinky rooms, faulty airconditioning and plumbing, rude staff, terrible breakfast and probably the worst coffee in Italy! But the location has great potential, a major hotel chain should just buy it and renovate it.

My first trip to Italy... It was a last minute situation. I admit when I arrived the hotel was a bit of a shambles. I was on the 3rd floor and there was a lot of redecorating going. My room was a very decent size. I loved that my room overlooked the Piazza. Id sit up at night just watching...

Terrible breakfast, lack of AC, unsafe elevator, loud and very unfriendly staff. After arriving late from the city we were told that hotel is closed and if we will try to reach our rooms they will call the police!!! That was absolutely disgusting. I was never ever treated like this. Noone speaks english whatsoever.

Never stay in this hotel. I went to this hotel on a school trip and it was awful. Firstly the food. We went to Italy for pizza and pasta. For our starters were had pasta which was very hard. For the main we got a piece of meat each day and some potatoes. The meat was grey and the potatoes...

Stayed for one night. Rooms are average, breakfast is poor, pastry was not fresh, there was not too much choice what to eat. Disappointing for three star hotel. Close to Colosseum, close to tram station, far away from metro station. In the evening streets are dark and without pedestrians. For that prize it must be better.

We travel to Rome on average about four times a year. During this time we have experienced a wide range of hotels; most often they offer excellent professional service. Unfortunately, our stay at the Hotel Porta Maggiore must rank as one of our most unpleasant stays in Rome. The reception desk staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. Despite a PM...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
