This hotel was in the best location ever. Very close to St Peters Square. Our room was cute and cosy (i.e. very small) but it was immaculately clean and appeared to have been recently renovated. It is a bit hard to find the hotel but there is taxi stand almost right outside and the drivers are super helpful. You have...

This is my opinion after spending two nights at the "Residenza Paolo VI" -staff: very polite and helpful, -location: good because of vicinity to the st Peter's cathedral , but the location is not the best choice for visiting Rome. View from the Hotel's restaurant looking to st Peter's cathedral is fantastic. -breakfast: simple, fresh -room: basic but clean .

In October, when we visited Rome it's cold at night. This hotel has no heat, no hair conditioner only shampoo, no irons, and 1 person at the front desk. The hotel had only 2 English TV stations. The last night I found a water beetle in the corner of my room close to my bed. The streets around the hotel...

A very nice hotel a stones throw from St Peter's Cathedral. Hotel is very clean and comfortable beds. A quiet refuge with a quaint small dining terrace perfect for that afternoon wine with a wonderful view of the Cathedral. Daily breakfast is a full breakfast and very tasty. Service in the restaurant is very good and the hotel staff is...

We started our trip in Rome. They hotel was beautiful. You walk out of your hotel and 6 more steps and you are in the square at the Vatican... The staff was very nice. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Last week was our second stay at Residenza Paolo VI. We chose it again because the location is extraordinary. St Peter's Basilica is right across the street! The terrace views have to be among the best in Rome. The accommodations are pristine and the staff very professional. We will make Residenza Paolo VI a MUST on future trips to Rome.

This hotel is right across the Street from the Vatican, which you can view sitting on their deck. Staff was being nice. It is a converted mansion, very nicely done (though a bit confusing as it shares space with offices -- the Vatican's official store is on the ground floor. The neighbor is not as close to restaurants/bars as some...

Brilliant place to stay. Lovely clean rooms and very close to the Vatican and the Hop-on and Hop-off buses Breakfast in local restaurants expensive so you can buy food from local shops and have coffee in the dining area. Would certainly return here or recommend it to others. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

Our stay was great here. All employees were extremely friendly, rooms were clean, location is great next to Vatican City. Morning breakfast had a nice mix of food, coffee was very good. Was easy to get around to the other areas of Rome. Hotel feels very secure and is really quiet.

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza Paolo VI, established on the premises of an Augustinian Monastery, was inaugurated at the beginning of the Holy Year 2000. The genius loci and the charm of tradition, still alive in its ancient walls, make this property your "private" haven in Rome, far away from chaos, in the pulsing heart of the Eternal City. Rome has many hotels, but only one of them is located directly on St. Peter's Square (Vatican): Residenza Paolo VI, the ideal place for those wishing to stay in the heart of Christendom, close to St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Grottoes, the Necropolis, St Peter's and Saint John Paul II's tombs, the Vatican Gardens and St. Angel's Castle. Walking along the Vatican Wall, it's easy to reach the Vatican Museums and visit the famous Sistine Chapel. Furthermore, some of our rooms offer special view of the Holy Office or of the internal courtyard of the ancient monastery or even of St. Peter's Dome. From our magnificent Terrace it is possible to admire up close St. Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace, exactly where the Holy Father Pope Francis appears to bless the faithful and to recite the Sunday Angelus. ... more   less
