The staff were friendly, they upgraded our room, the room itself was great, the surroundings tranquil and the breakfast fantastic. What more do you want when you're nestled in amongst one of Rome's best cafe districts?

My family of 4 (two young adult children) stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria for 4 nights. It is in the perfect location in old Rome. We enjoyed walking around the streets, seeing the street vendors, buskers and many, many restaurants to choose from. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was great and... More

A very nice spot in the buzzling streets of Trastevere. Quiet and calm only a few steps away from Piazza Santa Maria and a lovely garden to read, have a glass of wine or just relax. Friendly staff and good food. The rooms are ok too, but not very modern. All you need for your stay though. Will recommend this... More

We stayed here during a 15 day trip to Italy spanning 6 different location. Rome was our last location before leaving home and we didn't expect to like Rome; we expected to be burnt out and tired. In fact, we were already burnt out and disappointed by our previous location so our hopes were not high and we were kind... More

Hotel Santa Maria is the best hotel my family and I could have stayed at in Rome. Firstly, it's location is amazing. Right around the corner from the hotel is a little square which is bursting with life during the night. The area is a host to many authentic Italian stores and made me feel as if I was immersed... What a gem! The location in the heart of Trastevere was perfect and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were very nicely appointed with plenty of room to spread out. The breakfast was the best we had during our 3 week trip with a wonderful selection of foods both hot and cold. And the best tasting and artfully decorated... More

As soon as we arrived we knew we'd made a good choice - greeted by friendly reception staff and shown to our spotlessly clean accommodation which had everything we needed, a very comfortable double bed upstairs, bathroom with complementary toiletries and a small minibar/fridge downstairs. The central courtyard is an oasis of calm filled with fruit trees and perfect for... More

Hotel is very clean with fantastic air conditioning. We didn't arrive until 2am but check in was friendly and pain free. We booked return transfer from the airport too. Breakfast is simple but lovely and there's even snacks at teatime to have with a drink. The staff couldn't do more for you. Location was excellent for all sites in Rome.... More

We loved staying at Hotel Santa Maria! It was in a quant part of town away from the crowds and yet very accessible to everything! The staff were amazing and it was the perfect oasis to come back to after a day of touring! This hotel is a hidden gem and I would highly recommend it!

The hotel is located in the heart of Rome with the most unexpectedly peaceful outdoor space where you have breakfast and afternoon drinks. The rooms are spotless and the basic amenities needed for a carefree experience. We highly recommend this hotel.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
