Such a lovely hotel in such a great location. The rooms were so tidy, the happy hour incredible, the breakfasts delightful, and the courtyard so pleasing to the eye! The staff was also superb. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family!

I was sceptical about the hotel, as although reviews were excellent, a hotel on one level around a courtyard, what could go wrong! Well I couldn't have been more wrong! The hotel was superb, the staff were excellent and would fall over the, sleeves to assist in anything, even when I lost my phone on a hop on hop off bus.... More

We stayed here 2 nights while sightseeing in Rome. To say the staff was accommodating is an understatement. Everyone was amazing We had booked our tours ourselves and found it necessary to have the hotel staff coordinate our taxis, restaurants and directions. Their attention to detail and promptness in caring for our needs was beyond expectations. The morning breakfast and... More

This is an amazing hotel. If we're ever in Rome again we will definitely be staying here. It's I the best spot close to everything and so much to do right in the area. I couldn't believe how wonderful the service and how helpful everyone was. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

We had a 2 night stay here on the way back from our Summer holiday in Umbria. A trial city break with 3 kids (20 months, 5 and 8). The staff were so amazing - really friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. They helped park and move the car for us. Rooms were clean and spacious, and the... More

This hotel was a great find for our large group. The location in the heart of Trastevere neighborhood was terrific. Lots of great exploring to be done on foot all around the area of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good, with a lovely outdoor dining area (indoor also available). We would definitely stay... More

Wonderful location in the middle of buzzing Trastevere. Near restaurants and bars but still peaceful and calm. Beautiful cloisters, friendly staff and lovely bar / breakfast, eaten under the orange trees in the courtyard. Will definitely return.

This hotel was by far on of the best I have ever stayed in. However, this was not purely achieved from the room itself, rather a combination of elements. In this hotel we felt very safe, and secluded from the bustling loud city that was very close by. It had great and quick access to cafes and other restaurants nearby.... More

For 4 days in Rome, the Hotel Santa Maria took care of us like family. It was our first trip to Italy and we were excited and nervous all at the same time. From start to finish, this Hotel delivered! The Hotel is located in the very interesting neighborhood of Trastevere. Small little streets with cafes, restaurant, and shops that... More

Very happy with this hotel and would highly recommend staying here. We splurged a bit on this place but was well worth it. Others have described it as an "oasis" and it really was. Helpful and attentive staff, GREAT breakfast (included in the price), and a beautiful garden courtyard to eat and relax in. The neighborhood that the hotel is... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
