Good: -location -spacious room (454) -helpful doormen Bad: -poor insulation (very noisy during the day and evening) -hard beds -concierge/reception are understaffed (sometimes they don't pick up the phone and when they do they take over an hour to come back to you..also whenever I was physically down by the lobby had to wait minimum 10 min for someone to... This was obviously once a truly beautiful hotel but it is shabby and the staff is limited and not well trained. Example: I was unable to get a gin martini in the bar even though the bottle of Bombay Saphire was sitting right there. The mattresses were ancient although the rooms themselves, while small, were attractive. It is in a... More

It is deeply puzzling how on earth this Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome remains to carry a five star mark. Although we read some negative reviews before, we wondered how bad it could be. When we got there, we got the feeling that it is bad, indeed. Entering our standard double room on the third floor, we were instantly reminded... More

Although this hotel was convenient to many of the things I wanted to see in Rome, I was very disappointed in the quality of this hotel. First of all, I found the staff to not be the least be helpful. There was usually only one person working the bar at night, and the service was terrible. Our room was large,... More

Thank God I don't know how much my husband paid for this hotel. I am trying to fight a temptation to find out for not to get even more disappointed than I already am. We are here right now and I am happy that it's only 1 more night left. Matress is made of hard foam (that's good) but the... More

This is a great hotel and convenient to visit the major sites in Rome. It is very close to the Spanish Steps and close (10 - 15 minute walk) to Trevi Fountain and a 20 minute walk to the Colisseum. The lobby area is impressive. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms are well appointed with good fixtures.

We have just returned from our 4th stay at the Grand Plaza. It is still the only place we will consider returning to because of the ideal location and interior beauty. We had a struggle with the air conditioner in our room this time. It just couldn't handle the excessive early June heat. But, we still find the staff friendly... More

Centrally located near all the tourist sites and tons of restaurants. Wasted on the kids, and the front desk personnel during the day are not the most accommodating. Evening staff was wonderful and very helpful. You can walk to everything you have ever read about in Rome within 30 minutes. Take time to explore the lounge area, the paintings are... More

After checking out of another hotel due to finding mould in our room, we found ourselves stranded in Rome; in peak season! We decided to check bookings.com and were extremely fortunate to find one room left at the Grand Plaza Hotel! The room wasn’t cheap (Superior Room), but this hotel is worth every euro! We walked into a beautiful, grand... More

A peaceful oasis away from the tourists and shoppers outside. Beautiful décor, the salon is certainly to be seen. Has probably seen better days but you need to see past that. My deluxe double room was more than adequate - clean bathroom; dressing room; huge bed with good quality linen. No complaints. As for the folks saying the staff are... More

Staying in Campo Marzio

Neighborhood Profile
Campo Marzio
From its original role as ancient army training fields to its present-day identity as one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods, the Campo Marzio is the best place to get lost in Rome. Gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque palazzos line the streets, and are filled with enticing boutiques and food shops. By day, Rome’s best-dressed denizens criss-cross its streets in a fashionable parade of errands, occasionally pausing to look fabulous in gorgeous piazzas like San Lorenzo in Lucina. Campo Marzio can be a bit of a sleeper after aperitivi hour (9pm), so visit by day and experience the pulse of daytime Rome.
