Lovely hotel, very traditional decor. Great base for the hopper bus and not far from the coliseum! We would definitely visit Rome again! 3 nights was enough to see all the sights leisurely. The rooftop restaurant was delicious. The staff and the Italians in general are very lovely people.

While our stay at the Mecenate was brief (2 nights), it was nonetheless fulfilling. Rome was our first stop on our Italian adventure this summer and this hotel provided us with the appropriate welcome to the eternal city. While this hotel was built in 1985, it is situated in a historic building that exudes beautiful and elegant detail. My husband... More

Very good hotel, staff very friendly. Allowed early check in and very helpful young man on Front Desk. Fantastic roof terrace, although drinks expensive €10 for Aperol Spritz. Breakfast on roof terrace a delight, but be aware of wasps in August. Only real criticism is the air conditioning, not cool enough, and rooms overlooking the Basilica too noisy a location... More

The Mecenate palace made our Rome visit a special event! If you want to stay in a clean, classy and all encompassing hotel, this is the place. The rooms were wonderful, the upstairs patio/bar/restaurant really made for a relaxing evening after touring the city. The view of the Basilica was breathtaking!! If you're looking for comfort, value and a great... More

By chance on August the 5 My husband and I stayed here on the most perfect occasion of the celebration of the beautiful sacred apparition of The Virgin Mary and the appearance of snow! The apparition called for the building of the Santa Maria Maggiore founded in the 4th century, the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (Basilica of Saint Mary... More

The Mecenate Palace is a very nice property. The room was spacious, depending on the amount of luggage you have to move around. It was very clean and comfortable. Our 5th floor room looked out on the Santa Maria Maggiore. The property is conveniently located near the Rome Termini Station which includes stops for multiple bus connections and the two... More

What a beautiful view! Overall, a great experience. Service was good, not excellent. Mussels appetizer was delicious, but the sole filet that followed was overcooked and tasteless. However, on the rooftop the temp was much more agreeable and the view was incredible. The only obstacle was the wall that surrounded the terrace - it would be great if the wall... More

My daughter and I have just returned from a few days in Rome. Our stay at the MP was very enjoyable. The service, location and roof top terrace is one of Rome's many gems! Marco was superb and looked after us at lunch. In fact all of the staff were friendly. We really couldn't fault the hotel, any issues we... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
