I’ve been coming to Rome since I was eighteen years old, and I’ve stayed all over the city in a wide range of accommodation levels. Rome is one of those strange cities where there’s such a tourist draw; fine hotels don’t have to try too hard to retain a loyal following and call themselves “luxury.” For this reason and unlike other cities in Europe, it’s been hard to find me and my husband a home away from home in the Eternal City. I thought we had found it last year with a stay at Hotel Hassler – a perfect stay. However, little did I know until our trip this year that Villa Agrippina has even Hotel Hassler beat in terms of facilities and service. I think we waited so long to try Villa Agrippina due to the location – an extra 10-15 minutes’ walk from the major sites in the city. Little did I know this extra walk is a strong reason to stay at the hotel. It really removes you from Rome’s chaos and makes you feel like you’re part of something special. The fantastic experience started last year when I booked our room and started speaking with the front desk and concierge team about details and logistics concerning the trip. Major shout outs to Francesca, Giulia, Inna, Scilla, and Gianfranco for all their detailed and organized communication with me via email. The team even went ahead and honored a Leading Hotels of the World Sterling room upgrade within a week of my booking date, which was impressive. The hotel arranged a car pickup from Termini, Mercedes E-Class or similar. I was excited when we walked up to the car, it was a brand-new Audi A6. I drive Audi vehicles at home in Dallas, so being in something stylish and familiar was enjoyable while we drove across town and crossed the river. As we approached the turn up the hill toward the resort gates, something happened in a matter of seconds. The crowds and traffic just disappeared. No one was around. We drove through the gates and up to the roundabout. We were greeted by four members of staff. Not one, not two, but four. Their smiles, energy, and friendliness were fantastic. Between the hospitality, meticulous landscaping surrounding us, stunning villa façade, and absolute silence, we were really taken back. Villa Agrippina is another world, isolated from Rome’s chaos. The hotel just oozes in style at every turn. The frosted glass entrance doors to the lobby offer a neat effect. You don’t see what you’re about to walk into, and then the automatic doors part. You’re greeted with lots of marble, large-scale sculpted art, stunning chandeliers, and a reception desk where you are invited to sit for the check-in process. Check-in was quick and friendly, then we were escorted to our room and given a quick rundown of our Junior Suite. The room was very large, especially by Rome standards. It included a proper sitting area, two televisions, a wonderful king-size bed, and an impressive bathroom area with a huge bathtub and wet area featuring a large rain head shower, and even a window for fresh air. I also really appreciated the two wardrobes – plenty of space for both of us to unpack. The hotel’s food and beverage program were fantastic, and the lobby lounge/bar off the main entrance was stunning. The room was full of intimate sitting areas, flowers & plants, impeccable furnishings, and a beautiful bar at the center. Service was very attentive, and we enjoyed cocktails and snacks here two of our three days. In addition, the breakfast spread was plentiful, and I appreciated the variety of hot and cold offerings. Final note – I cannot recommend Villa Agrippina enough. If you crave top-level bespoke service, modern luxury, and a peaceful respite from one of the Europe’s craziest cities, this is the place for you! …
