We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment in the Hotel Retrome, located on the 4th floor (no elevator, be prepared for stairs!) in a charming building with modern decor, a spacious kitchen, and private, sunny enclosed deck. Despite being a short walk from the Colosseum, you feel like you're in a quiet, "authentic" Roman neighborhood. Within a few blocks are a...

Being lovers of all things vintage, Retrome was totally up our street. There is a lot walking and sightseeing to do in Rome so the location is great because you can easily take a break from the nearby sights and nip home for a siesta. The vibe is stylish but laid back and the beds are comfortable. We felt very...

I stayed for 3 nights with a friend. We had chosen the small bedroom : it is indeed small but very well thought and equiped : the shower is really nice, there's a hairdryer, coffee and water, and even a smart TV from which you can send messages to reception. Our room was located on the first floor (no elevator),...

Stayed here for 6 nights. For the pretty long stay that this was for 1 city, this place almost started feeling like home. It is 10 mins walking distance from the Colosseum. Also great proximity to both the metro lines - Colosseo and Manzoni. Staff is very helpful. Right from the time that I was booking the stay online to...

Me and The Mrs. were in Rome for a few days sight seeing and wanted reasonably priced accommodation near to some key sites with decent transport links. We got that and more as the local amenities were also pretty good, especially local café and bars. The accommodation it's self was above expectations, en suite room with smart TV and Wi-Fi...

Our family of three stayed in the first floor apartment. It had two double beds, a bathroom and a small kitchen. It was in a residential area and easy walking distance to the Colosseum as well as two metro stops. There was a small grocery store nearby and a number of restaurants. Not fancy, but clean and well-located for the...

We recently visited the retrome for one night before heading to Florence to do a show. We arrived in daylight, found out ahead of time parking situations. Within an hour after arriving we found our car smashed into, 9! Suitcases loaded out in broad daylight just aside the retrome! In one hour we lost all our processions. Aside the retrome...

Dear Jamie, Thank you for your review. Of course, it is not nice to read a review with a low score, but after reading your review, I can understand that you had a bad experience with the surrounding and the area on the day that you came to Rome. Of course, to have an unpleasant experience in the first day...

A bit unusual, these are a set of rooms within a standard apartment building. Once you have your keys, you come and go as though it's your own place. For the independently minded, it's a bonus. If, on the other hand, you're the sort of molly-coddled whinger with an exaggerated sense of personal entitlement who expects room service, look elsewhere....

We liked the looks on the photos, but first we were charged 25 EURO for late check-in and the next morning the staff told us they booked more rooms than they have and we would have to move out. (!?) They found us another "hotel" nearby, which was more expensive and nothing like this one. When we said we found...

RetRome won’t be for everyone; some will love it, but others will not find it as confortable or inviting as they wish. To begin with, it’s not really a hotel in the traditional sense. And, it's not really a bed and breakfast. More like a service apartment with extras. You enter through a single solid door with only a tiny...

Staying in Monti

Neighborhood Profile
Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighborhood just west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season, quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its cobblestone streets. The neighborhood supports unique and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime residents as well as hipsters on the hunt. Hang out at Piazza della Madonna dei Monti anytime after lunch and you'll always find something going on.
