We made a trip to Rome this August. This time the we went as a family of four. We stayed at Mascagni where we stayed 15 years ago since the location was not bad and the hotel staff were very kind. Renovations were done a few years ago but over all the friendly atmosphere have not changed over the years.... More

We had been booked to stay two nights here by our travel company but on arrival we were told that they had overbooked and had no room available for us. As they had only discovered this on the morning of our arrival it had been too late to let us know and being hot and bothered by this time -... More

We booked this hotel through a great rate on their website. We got a quad room on the first floor beside the breakfast room. It was a quiet room but no view which was fine with us. The staff speak fluent English and are very friendly. The room was clean and adequate but small. It was fine for our family... More

Hotel Mascagni is a lovely hotel in the city center of Rome. Conveniently located to so many sights & the Termini Station (for easy trips to other Italian cities--we went to Fireze & came back to Roma). You can walk to the Spanish Steps, The Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum, and Campo di Fiore. And, the subway to other sights is... More

I cannot really fault my 2 nights at this hotel. From the moment we arrived to the time we left. We had a very friendly welcome I was also wished happy birthday and that I would have a surprise later. We were provided with tourist information and then shown to our room which was to the rear of the hotel... More

So we check in late around midnight with one more person than I had booked the room for (my brother decided to join us after the reservation was made). Instead of setting up a cot and charging us for the extra person, they made us take an EXTRA room at a "discounted" rate since they don't have anyone to setup... More

Really friendly and helpful staff. We were recommended a restaurant 5 minutes away in the Via Flavia which was so good we went back again for another meal there. The hotel is really quiet and the small but comfortable rooms were spotlessly clean(our room was on the second floor at the back of the building). The location is only 5... More

We stayed here last summer on 2 separate legs of our trip, and had booked everything many months in advance. Our first 3-night stay was fairly nice. The staff were courteous and our room was clean, albeit quite a haul at the very top of the building. On our 2nd 3-night stay here however, they claimed that they overbooked for... More

Pros: Decor in nice, location is close to some attractions and to train station. Cons: Staff is unpolished and rude, and I mean rude even for Italian standards, for starters. Our hotel room, number 510, was an attic space converted into a guest room. It's actually on the 6th floor and can only be accessed via some narrow corridors on... More

The hotel in placed within walking distance of many major attractions. The staff are always happy to assist and are happy to recommend places to visit and best times to go. We enjoyed some amazing cocktails and food within the hotel. The one thing the hotel could do with including in the rooms is tea making facilities.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
