Hotel's Favorite
My trip took me from Milan to Rome. While I was told that the check in was supposed to be at 3pm, Alina at the front desk encouraged me to check in when we arrived around 12pm. Not only was she able to help me to check in but she also demonstrated Marriott’s strong royalty program by upgrading my family to a suite. The hotel is beautifully decorated although some parts could do well with some remodeling. We started every morning at their Doney Restaurant. The decor and the music always gave us a good start, not to mention a good spread of the breakfast buffet. Location is superb as it is a short walk to metros and many points of interest. It is also interesting that this hotel seems to be on the border of the tourist zone and the locals. To the west, it is the old town with all the tourist spots and to the east, it’s a quiet neighborhood with spots I assumed only locals would hit. Overall, my family and I enjoyed our stay very much and would love to visit Roma again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Excelsior. The location is excellent, the rooms are spacious, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and quiet. With the condition that the buidling is currently in, however, this is not a five star hotel. Some examples - the matresses had deep ruts and are way overdue to be replaced, a moulding and some knobs were missing on doors and cabinets, usb charging station was broken (there is only one on one side of the bed) the shower dripped, carpet was worn and threadbare in spots, wires were visible at the top of our ceiling lighting fixture, and the televisions are ancient. Bath products were more appropriate for a mid-tier hotel, and some nights housekeeping left water bottles, some nights they didn't. Still, despite the wear and tear, it has a lot of character and style, and we had a pleasant stay. Hopefully the Excelsior gets a renovation in the near future and can claim five-star status, which is within reach.

Stayed only one night. Check in was fine. Public areas very nice. Whilst I appreciate that this hotel is old fashioned and unique in character, I was really taken aback by the poor condition of my bedroom. It was like stepping back into the 80’s. Everything was dark and worn. The air conditioning control was hanging off the wall as the duct tape came loose. There was one plug for the entire room. The TV wouldn’t be out of place on the antique roadshow. The bathroom was on its last legs. Everything screamed of zero investment. Hopefully this will be forthcoming as this should be one of the best hotel in Rome

The old-world beauty and charm of the Excelsior were not lessened by its modern amenities! My husband and I enjoyed hearing the pianist as we walked through the lounge in the evening--he enhanced the ambiance. The associates in food service gave bright and happy responses when we called, and the meals arrived in or before time estimated. The comfortable bed and considerate room service attendants were particularly appreciated as we were adjusting to a six-hour time difference. We engaged concierge service members numerous times, and they were extremely helpful in translating since we do not speak Italian. Their patience was much appreciated, as was the patience of the female agent at the front desk. We walked most places or took the Uber and were well pleased with our choice of location.

The hotel has a great central location. Great restaurants close by. The check in staff was a little cold and stuffy. Some of the concierge staff was very nice and accommodating the others were a little rude. The hotel lobby was nice enough, the rooms had some charm to them. The beds were very comfortable, but the pillows way too soft. The bar downstairs was nice and the staff was friendly and accommodating. They had a piano player in the evenings. This is definitely a hotel for the older crowd. Upon further inspection, the carpets in the room needed to be replaced. There was some mold in the bathroom on the tile. The housekeeping staff comes in multiple times a day to refresh the bed and towels, which was nice. They also turned down the bed at night. The TV was about 20 years old. It was very disappointing that a hotel at this price point doesn’t even have a newer TV, or even a smart TV for that matter. You also have to pay for wifi. I should have done more research. I would definitely not stay here again.

On our next to last day in Italy after an amazing 11 days I wanted to treat my daughter to an American meal in a foreign country. So I chose the Westin Hotel in Rome. It was a disaster. First we waited an interminable length of time for our order which was a hamburger and a Caprese salad. The hamburger ordered medium was a brick hard overcooked piece of meat and the Caprese salad as a sandwich drenched in mayonnaise on Wonder bread. The cost upwards of $60. The french fries were good. When we complained to the hotel manager he was totally indifferent. I got the feeling like it was bad enough that we were Americans but women to boot.

We had a lovely two night stay at the Westin in Rome. The location was great, beautiful lobby area and nice bar/restaurants. We stayed in a junior king suite the room was large and quite opulent. It could use some new carpet and the shower drain didn’t work very well. All in all a nice place to stay 4.5

My wife and I have been to Rime a number of times and we have stayed at 4 diffrenet hotels. I am an experienced domestic traveler in the US. Without a doubt this is our favorite hotel experience in Rome and it is the hotel we recommend to every friend going to the city. The hotel itself is lovely, we appointed, and cared for with attention. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. We love the location just outside of the bustle of the City but with every destination easily reachable either on foot or a short cab ride. The staff is extremely professional and attentive. I left my phone in a cab and the doorman spent 90 minutes tracking it down - just an example of going beyond expectations. I want to thank the housekeeping staff who kept our room looking sharp and feeling welcoming. The Westin Excelsior team is clearly well managed and well trained. I lookforward to our next visit G McCormick
