4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

My wife, adult daughter and I stayed here for 5 days. Room was clean and most beautifully decorated. It was very clear the owner was artistic. Unfortunately, the Sophie, the owner, was out of town at a film festival, so we did not get to meet her. We did meet her assistance, her children, her next door neighbor, and some of her family, and briefly, her very friendly cat. The bath was small, but adequate. The owner had arranged for breakfast in one of four area coffee shops as part of the cost of the room. This was great treat for us to eat in a "real" local coffee shop. Unfortunately, on Sunday, we had an early train to Naples and they were not yet open at 6:00AM, so we ate at the train station. You can arrange with the owner to get picked up at the airport, which we did via email... The trip was a sight-seeing excursion in and of itself. I would recommend that. If you do this, make sure you have a phone that works in Italy, because we did not know the... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

This accommodation is in an excellent location to experience Rome like a local & be able to walk to many of Rome's iconic treasures!. Also easy walking distance to the Station.
Sophie is an excellent host & provides more than just a room & welcome. There are all sorts of extras included in the well presented room - our room had a wonderful courtyard garden access. Sophie is a font of information on Rome & its arts & culture as well as the other joys - food & entertainment. Close to the University area with lots of cafes & restaurants. A great place.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
