Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighborhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.

Althea Inn has a lovely spacious room (especially for Rome) with a modern bathroom and an amazing roof terrace. Alessandro is such a gracious and helpful host and personally served us wonderful breakfasts with coffee, fresh orange juice, fresh fruit and Italian paninis on the terrace. Good local restaurants- don’t be put off by the exterior look! Very convenient for local buses and trains. A wonderful stay!

We spent 3 nights at the amazing Althea Inn and absolutely loved it. We were lucky enough to have the Michelangelo room which has a lovely private terrace on which we enjoyed our fabulous breakfasts and evening drinks. Alessandro is an amazing host and goes above and beyond to ensure you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay from arranging airport transfers, booking restaurants and taxis, to arranging a lovely bottle of wine and fruit in the room on arrival, nothing was too much trouble. The room was a lovely size, the bed was very comfortable, had a well stocked mini fridge, tea/kettle, toiletries, hairdryer and air conditioning (which came in very handy during the June heat). Located slightly out of the hustle and bustle of central Rome you get a taste of what local life is like. The attractions are a short bus/taxi ride away (or if you're not in a hurry a leisurely 20/30 minute walk away) If we ever go back to the beautiful city of Rome we wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Althea Inn.

Alessandro is a tremendous and gracious host. The breakfast is definitely filling, while the view and space of the room is more than adequate. He even went above and beyond as to assist us with local reservations as well as helping navigate our way around Rome. The neighborhood is lively and very close to numerous good eats as well as a couple of blocks away from the nearest subway (Colosseo is 2 stops away). Also, an amazing gelato spot is within walking distance. I would stay here again without question!

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May. We found it on Tripadvisor and we have to agree with all the positive comments: Althea Inn is a lovely place to stay! We had the Da Vinci suite, which has a bathroom with large marble shower. The terrace is really nice, equiped with a comfy loungeset. Breakfast is served in your room at the desired time. Coffee, fresh orange juice, croissants, bread, fruit,... whatever you like. Alessandro is a terrific host, helping out with transportation, restaurant reservations or any other question you may have. Really top guy!! Piramide subway station is just around the corner and takes you to the city center in no time (although we never used it, you can easily get there walking). Ostiense train station is also really close, it has a direct train connection with Fiumicino airport. Overall, we had a great time at the Althea Inn and would reccomend it to everyone without hesitation!
