First of all, it was 10min from a metro station, roma termini and the colosseum. Furthermore the owner was very friendly. However the wifi was very poor- basically non existant. the whole place smelt of cigarettes. Warm water in the shower barely lasted longer than 2min. Above all the place was very hard to find with no obvious signage.

We stayed at Hotel Maikol from 8/7/15 to 8/14/15. It is not really a hotel, it is sort of a bed and breakfast type place. The room is about 200 sq. ft. and the bathroom is about 60 sq. ft. (no ac in the bathroom) with the shower area about 4 sq ft. (very small). The owner was out on... More

First, Hotel Maikol is almost impossible to find, my taxi driver didn't even know where it was (there's no sign). When I finally found it, the woman who runs the hotel told me there was currently no running water. Five hours and still no water.... I asked multiple times to be given another room and she finally gave in and... More

We stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Rome for sightseeing. We knew we were going to be out most of the time busy around the city so we didn't want to pay for a fancy and expensive hotel. Both the room and en-suit were large but very basic and slightly dated. While we were there the air con in... More

You should know this is like a big apartment turned into a B&B, and you get what you pay for. It's not a luxury hotel but it's clean and well located, walking distance to the Coliseum and there's a Metro station right there that takes you to the Vatican. We didn't have any problems at all with the booking. The... More

I've been to Rome last week with my girlfriend for 7 days stay. The day we arrived, we got a nice double room with poor air condition, functioning water services and a pleasant room overall facing the backside of the hotel - it was relatively quiet (You get what you pay for obviously). Already the first night our water tap... More

Arrived with confirmation of having paid via a most reputable booking website, but was told that this was incorrect, there was no booking, (our booking company confirmed they had booked and paid). Another couple arrived holding their printed and paid for accommodation form, from a different but also reputable booking company, and were told the same thing. We sat on... More

The owner of this hotel is a BIG fraud. Even after having a confirmation for two rooms she refused to give the room. When we reached the at 12.00 hrs to the hotelshe said the you have two rooms but check in will at 14.00 hrs so she said you can go and come back after 14.00 hr. We kept... More

Excellent location, lovely owner, comfortable bed and temperature, clean and roomy. Wifi pretty much didn't exist, and breakfast is at at take away place next door with a voucher, which was just coffee and a pastry. One of our bath towels seemed to be infused with the smell of smoke. Although security was high with three different keys to get... More

Booked this hotel as it was the only one I could find to be within my budget & located centrally. Still, a very basic hotel despite the price. One may have big challenge to locate it initially. It is located on the 2nd floor, access thru a large wooden door at the corner of Via della Statuto & Via Leopardi,... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
