We are a young couple (21 and 23) and we both thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay in the Bluehostel. We booked on booking.com, and it worked out @ €40 each per night, and €3.50 city tax each per night so totalled at €174 - there are cheaper hostels and budget hotels but we found that this matched its price... I am used to expensive hotel rates, but Rome is right up there - Paris and London expensive! We needed one night, close to Termini Station for a connection to the airport. The Blue Hostel is technically a hostel - no 24 hour desk, no restaurant, no nothing except a decent room and friendly staff. We had a perfectly lovely... More

I loved Blue Hostel. The location, the room and its amenities, the charming welcome from Ercole and Andrea are all one could wish for. Now on my Top 10 list of favourite places I've ever stayed in! James H

What a brilliant place at an affordable price. It was clean and comfortable and in a perfect location by Santa Maria Majiorre and 5 mins from station. The host was incredibly friendly and helpful making us feel so welcome. Great map and helpful recommendations on bars and restaurants. I will definitely be back and will recommend to anyone coming to... More

We had a wonderful stay here (Dec 6-12 2015). Lovely room with exposed wooden beams, quiet, and perfectly located for transport, bars, restaurants and exploring Rome on foot. The map given is superb with spot on recommendations which made the trip. Will definitely stay here again.

The Blue Hostel was wonderful, an unexpected find given our previous hostel experience - much more like a hotel than a hostel, in terms of cleanliness, comfort, quiet and service. As many other reviewers have noted, our hosts provided an excellent purpose-designed map of Rome and the surrounding neighbourhood that pointed us in the direction of tourist attractions, public transport and... The Blue Hostel is a great value for Rome. Clean, spacious (for Europe) rooms with renovated bathrooms and a super helpful, friendly staff. Andrea helped us find every single meal we had in Rome! Bed was extremely comfy, too.

Ideal location. map provided in the room was a life saver. Room was spotless. Very cosy but spacious, really comfy beds and lovely bathroom. Very quiet at night. Staff were lovely and they left you to do your own thing but if you needed them they were there which was great for us. No doubt I would definitely go there... More

We were a group of 5 girls split into two rooms of three and two. Rooms were very spacious and cosy with plenty of rome to hang up clothes, walk around, store luggage etc. Bathroom was also a very good size. The hostel is in a great location adjacent to Piazza di Maria Maggiore so you can easily walk to... More

We really enjoyed our time at the Blue Hostel. Check in was smooth with Andrea giving us a fabulous map listing lots of great places to eat and drink. Breakfast is not included but that's a good thing because one of Rome's oldest and best bakeries is just around the corner! Fabulous coffee and pastries at Panella! The location is... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
