Our second stay at Donna Camilla and it was just as fabulous as we remembered. This converted convent is tucked away in a quiet section of Trastevere. We had the convenient access to the restaurants and nightlife of Trastevere without the noise or crowds. The center courtyard is immaculately groomed and the perfect garden setting to enjoy their sumptuous breakfast... More

We are currently staying in this beautiful hotel, and what a beautiful oasis. After sightseeing all day, a glass of wine in the stunning garden is relaxing. The breakfast is delicious, soy milk coffee is available here!!, and the staff are wonderfully friendly. The historical monastery setting sets it apart from other hotels, and with a rooftop view if the... More

Utterly delightful & peaceful refuge in vibrant Trastevere. Staff, care, comfort and breakfast superb - kind and gracious people. Plus it is living history: the chapel integrated into the convent is open and available, tended to by the few remaining nuns - I loved that! Hard to leave! Would definitely come again.

Beautiful and spotless! The staff are lovely and friendly. A piece of Tuscany in Rome. We took a second floor room with balcony and were not disappointed. Lovely and quier yet just a short walk away from all the action of the Trastevere. Perfect! Would definitely recommend it.

We were only here one night. It's a beautiful converted convent. My room was comfortable and very spacious. The bed was comfy and the shower was very nice. A couple negatives were that the AC didn't get the room cool enough for me ( admittedly I like it quite cold) but with a room fan I was comfortable. They don't... More

Stayed here for our son's wedding along with a number of other wedding guests. Room not ready on arrival which was about noon and no movement on the 2pm check in. Luggage left and we went for a wander round the neighbourhood. Quiet during the day this area comes to life at night but hotel unaffected by any noise. The... More

The Hotel Donna Camilla Savelli is a beautiful, elegant hotel in Trastavere, a quaint area of Rome with dozens of cafes, and kitschy shops. The Hotel itself, which will remind you of a Renaissance villa, is a former convent that still has nuns in residence .. the hotel has an active chapel that dates from the 1600s, and is located... Wonderful hotel, great neighborhood, delicious breakfast. Three nuns still in residence and daily Mass available in the chapel. Wifi available free in room but was spotty while we were there. Excellent view from the roof terrace. No restaurant but many options close by. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved this hotel! A former convent turned hotel is a great place to stay in Rome. It is in the funky Trastevere area of Rome that comes alive during the evening with cafes, bars, noisy piazzas, etc - yet is a short walk across the river to all of the places you would want to visit in Rome. We... More

Do ask for their upgraded room with enormous private terrace. What a great hotel with beautiful garden in a lovely quiet neighbourhood outside central Rome but nearer to airport and civitavecchia. Lovely museums and churches to visit and great local restaurants. The hotel is wonderful and historic. Highly recommended

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
