I stayed at this hostel for three nights in a dorm room of 12. Best part was the friendly staff! I felt very welcome, and they gave me tips of what to do in Naples. The reception is open 24h, which makes the place feel very safe, along with the key cards in the dorm rooms and door bell at... More

I stayed with a friend here as part of a long self-guided tour of southern Italy thanks to the location and price; we chose a shared private room (a compact "triple" with a bunk bed over a big bed) and we were immediately impressed by the lovely garden and sociable, open-plan environment. Everything worked including the all-important WiFi and the... More

I stayed here in mixed forms with a friend for 3 nights in September 2016. We had both read very positive reviews of the hostel, but found upon arrival a very different place than what was described in reviews by visitors and by the hostel on their hostelworld.com page. First of all, they describe themselves as a 'luxury' hostel, which... More

The staff are very friendly, and were helpful in recommending lots of places to visit and how to get there. The kitchen is well stocked, however often left with dirty lots and pans. The rooms are nice enough, relatively clean and AC was good. The bathrooms weren't great, and the showers were not the cleanest. The location is good, close... More

Greatest thing is the garden, where you can relax after a day in the city of Naples. Just remarkable! Always a nice atmosphere there to meet people, listening to music and have a drink. The hostel has clean and modern rooms. The staff is really nice and you feel welcome from the beginning till the end. Always helpful when you... More

Stayed here for 5 nights in a mixed 10 bed dorm. The dorm itself was big and clean, with security lockers and power sockets. Bedside lights didn't work so could be annoying at night. Air-con was really poor, the first night it was on and made the room extremely cold, after that it was turned off so room was extremely... More

Very average hostel. Wifi didn't really work, the bathrooms & showers were disgusting !! The rooms were ok, the air conditioner was incredibly strong leaving the room freezing. The outdoor area is lovey and dinner is basically free! The location is average, it's about a 25 minute walk to the center of town. All round Naples is pretty average.

One amazing place to visit. La control offered great service from staff and local. Spacious and clean room, Great security and happy to help out where ever to need to go with a smile. Great atmosphere. close to nearby station Salvator Rosa which is quite easy to get to by metro from Napoli centrale, and of course the breakfast is... More

Traveled solo in June. The hostel was decent but the best part was the staff who were so welcoming! They made my stay so great I came back in July! Highly recommend this hostel. Had the best time here. On my last night the hostel turned into a dancing hostel!

If you are travelling alone this is a great place to meet new people. The atmosphere and garden are nice. But it is really not worth the five star reviews it gets. Even for the money the rooms are not very big, and not very clean. The staff is very business minded and only friendly to some degree (0,50 cents... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Deep down in Naples, La Controra is a monastery transformed into a backpackers hostel. Better than a Stargate: La Controra with its garden is a place where you can relax yet right in the middle of the bustling town around you. La Controra's recently renewed rooms are decorated by art sculptures placed in the floor tiles featuring sea shells, Neapolitan coffee pots, garlic and chilli peppers, “ex-voto” and red coral horns (ethnic Neapolitan esoterica and good luck charms!). ... more   less
