I was quite apprehensive before coming to Naples and this hotel. Nothing at all to worry about, the hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. I was worried about coming to Naples after all the things I read but I actually feel safe, a few streets I wouldn't walk down but I didnt have to anyway. It's a great place to make your base for Rome and Sorrento. Breakfast was good as I only like a roll with cheese and cold meat and yogurt and fruit anyway. I can't fault this hotel at all

I would not recommend this hotel for tourists. The piazza it’s located in is “sketchy” at best for a solo female traveler. The room itself overlooked the Main Street and was very loud. The bar below is open late so all the noise from that was easily heard. The room itself was clean-ish except the bed was filthy. The bedspread was in desperate need of being washed (stained and very dirty). The linens underneath were full of several strands of hair—not from me. It was really gross. There was no mattress cover, so I doubled the sheet and slept in my clothes so I didn’t have to use the bedspread. Thankfully I only stayed the one night.

I would not recommend this hotel for tourists. It is over a 50 minute walk away from the main tourist area. There are a small selection of bars outside the hotel, but these didn’t feel the safest. The taxi cost us €25 on arrival from the airport, but €12 on returning to the airport - be careful because drivers DO rip you off! Transport links are a 20 minute walk away. Links are no different to traveling on the London underground. Outside the station is a little daunting but using the transport itself was fine and SO much cheaper than taxi / boat. We easily visited Pompeii and Sorrento - BOTH are a MUST. You arrive there via their local train and it takes 40 minutes and over an hour for Sorrento. The hotel itself is worthy of no more than a 2*. The service throughout our stay (reception / cleaner) was great :). But the hotel itself is very tired. The safe didn’t work. The air con wasn’t on due to the time of the year, but the room really was unbearable (boiling!) due to a small window in the room. We did keep this open but then heard traffic and bars until early hours. Breakfast was very basic. The first day we arrived, there was over an hour left for having breakfast, but there was no hot food available. So eat early if you want the limited hot breakfast.

Napoli is amazing, full of so much history. So many have tried to conquer this city, from the Greeks, the Ostragoths, Romanbs, the French (Normans) , Nelson (UK ) was an ally, Garibaldi pushied to unite Itlay, ending the Kingdom of Sicily. And you can feel this rich mix in the buildings around you Hotel Ferdinando stands like an embassy at the end of an empire in film about a revolution. Facing the huge old derelict hospital that was once used to house the homeless of Napoli, you can hear the traffic 50 metres away spinning around the roundabout in and out of Napoli. or heading to the airport, reminding you just why you should relax and enjoy the chaos. With the windows shut in your comfortable room, you dont hear any of that, and you can drift off at night peacefully. Around the back of the hotel, you will find the street of Via Saint Atonio Abate- this has a regular market where you can see all the sights of regular Napoli life, live amazing eels, fish, crabs, hams, sausages, plastic toys, shoes, mafia men overseeing the market traders, dodgy untaxed cigarette vendors - it is glorious! Plus pick up a tasty takeaway pasta or arancini for local local prices where the market traders are eating. Near the Hotel Ferdinando I tried espresso's at all the local five cafe's and I would rate Cafe Vanvitelli best. It was quick to get into town in a taxi but just go early if theres a footbal match, and avoid the 4-8 pm rush hour.

Our room was great beside some molds in the bathroom and the fact that they did not vaccum the room at all. It’s big and spacious. One of our room windows wont be closed and as outside is always crowded the noise will bother you at 4 am. The modem turns off time to time so that the front deak guys should go and check the modem. The breakfast was poor for a 4 star hotel and the guy who was in the kitchen was alone and he should have manage everything! The restaurant area was too hot and they did not turn the AC on. The front desk was super friendly and managed all of our trips to capri and around the town. Thanks to the girls which I don’t know their names!
