On the final few days of my travels I decided I had to see Pompeii and a little of the Amalfi Coast. Having struggled to get to collection points for tours and with the intent of spending little time in my room, I opted for the very handily located and reasonably priced last minute accommodation at La Stazione Hotel near Naples Central Station. It was not a happy experience and unfortunately a poor introduction to Naples which as I travel on a one day tour today can see signs of amazing historical and culturally significant sights and vibrant streets. Entry from the street was from a tradesman entrance past a lift that wasn’t available up two flights of stairs to “Reception”. The shock was obvious on my face. The room descriptions online clearly did not apply to my room. No views over the city, no balcony unless that was the 6” deep Juliet Balcony overlooking the tradesman entrance; no pantry. The room seemed clean and the bathroom actually ok. If the outer door to the Main Street did close at around 8pm it surely did not stop the noise which was endless. People coming and going - very loudly. People arguing. Other tenants arriving back after midnight with no thought of other tenants. An endless succession of loud noises of people packing heavy things away or pulling them out again just after five in the morning. The area around “The Hotel” was very rough. Street traders and cheap cafes and provided little incentive to be out after dark. Maybe an over reaction but that is how I felt. I could not endure another night of noise and anxiety so will move out alternative accommodation on return from my tour and spend hopefully a relaxed last night and morning tomorrow in Naples enjoying what the city really had to offer. Moral of the story is beware sights that don’t show the outside of the accommodation, do your research and research The locality!

This hotel is very close to Napoli central station as you can walk there in 4-5 minutes. The reception people are very friendly and helpful. I forgot my phone's charger in the room when I checked out but left my stuff there to take them later. When I returned to hotel the receptionist gave my charger back. Neighbourhood does not seem very safe as you feel like in gangs neighbourhood. But in fact there is no real danger except pickpockets.

Confortable hotel near the train station of Garibaldi. The neighborhood is not very good and you have to be careful if want to walk around late até night, but you can find everything around It. People in reception are nice.

We chose this hotel for its close proximity to the station, we stayed 2 nights, before taking the train to Messina. The hotel took quite a bit of finding, as its through a big door, into a courtyard and on the 1st floor. Once inside the hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, but the view from the window looked out onto an alley, which held a street market during the day, and people sleeping rough by night!! There are a few restaurants and bars around Piazza Garibaldi, which is safe, the Metro station is also there, but I woudn't recommend exploring any side streets, as there are gangs of people roaming this part of Naples.

Right where to start, if your thinking of visiting Naples please don't (even more so if your travelling alone) we arrived 9.15pm at the train station and headed in the direction of the hotel, where on the streets were a lot of gangs hanging around, no one approached us but we were extremely uncomfortable and could sense everyone watching as we were searching for our hotel, which very poor signage (infact non at all other than a buzzer to get in through a big brown gate) where you make your way upstairs to the hotel entrance, once there it's fine, rooms were clean and had air con, window view was unpleasant but kind of what you expect in a run down city.. Hotel.. ok Naples.. avoid
