Check in is usually from 14.00, however we arrived at 13.00 and were given the keys to our room straight away. From the ground floor entrance you need to take the lift or stairs to reception on the 5th floor. Also on this floor there is a large terrace area with seating, tables and sunbeds, bar and indoor and outdoor dining and lounge areas. The terrace has lovely views and the sun on it for most of the day. There is also an outdoor pool, bar and sunbathing areas on the rooftop, with fantastic views and sun all day. Pool towels are provided. There is not much shading though. Look out for a ’secret’ indoor lounge opposite room 504, which has plenty of seats, tables for games, loads of books and magazines, tv and small pianos. This hotel has many good points (hence the 4), however upon arrival in our room we found that the whole floor was unclean, with hair and fluff all over it and some on the large sofa, dressing table and toilet seat. The balcony was also dirty and not cleaned during our stay. There are spectacular views of the whole of the Bay, including Vesuvius and Sorrento. Vesuvius could also be seen from inside the room. The sea view rooms are north east facing, so the sun was only on the balcony from sunrise until approx 10.30am. The sun was setting behind the hotel at approx 7.00pm. There are no blackout curtains, just net curtains behind wooden slatted shutters, which let light into the room in the mornings. Balcony seats are uncomfortable, but we used the sofa cushions instead. The balconies are not private as there is no shielding from neighbouring rooms. There are some rooms with larger balconies than others. In the room there is plenty of wardrobe space and hangars, full length mirrors and numerous drawers and shelves for storage. The fridge is empty (for own use). Only shower gel and shampoo is provided. There are quite a few English speaking tv channels (choose 400 onwards). The room includes a secure safe, UK plug socket, hairdryer, iron and free wifi with a good signal at all times. You have to login each day though. No tea and coffee in the room. The air con is switched off by the hotel around the middle of Sept, but we did need it at the end of Sept and had to keep the balcony door open because it was so hot in the room during the night. Continental breakfast was served from 7.00 > 10.00am. Aswell as choosing what you would like to eat you are also asked if you want eggs (scrambled, fried or boiled), a strip of bacon and beans. The evening meal is served from 7.00 > 9.00pm a la carte with a different set menu of 3 items per course each evening, however fruit and ice cream were part of the dessert options every evening. The staff will change something if any items on the menu are not to your liking. A salad table is also available before the starter. The food was lovely and generous portions. A bottle of wine starts from €18. You will be able to see and do everything in Sorrento in one day. There are lovely views from above the pontoon sunbathing areas, next to the Sorrento lift that takes you up and down to that area. Two sunbeds and an umbrella on Marina Grande is a total of €15 for the day. You can catch a ferry to Capri or Napoli from the port. Capri costs about €40 each return. It is worth it though. Also worth the 1 hour walk each way along the Corso Italia to the next town: Sant’Agnello - and La Marinella for the view looking back to Sorrento and the hotel. The local trains only cost €2 or €3 per journey - to visit Pompei, Herculaneum, or Napoli. Pompei is €16 each, which you can pay at the entrance. The train station is just 100m from the entrance to the site. The trains have plastic seats and graffiti is painted everywhere along the journey. We caught the local bus to Positano and Amalfi from the train station (for just €3 each way), although there is also a bus stop outside the hotel. You can catch a ferry to and from both places too.…
We stayed at the Minerva Hotel at the end of the season and during the COVID pandemic. Despite this, we had an amazing stay. We were lucky enough to have a sea view room with a balcony and the views are breathtaking - overlooking Sorrento from a height, with the coastline visible all the way to Pompei and Naples. The hotel staff were so lovely and accommodating, going above and beyond to cater to all of our needs. The hotel is a little walk up the hill from the centre of the town, we loved this as it gave the best views and a nice excuse to walk off our pasta in the evenings (only a 5/10 min stroll from the main high street). We discovered the rooftop pool on the last day of our stay, which was clean and quiet overlooking the harbour. The buffet breakfast was simple but really good and we loved ordering eggs a la carte every day. We would really love to stay at the Minerva Hotel again, hopefully, next year! …
This hotel is just amazing. The location is perfect as its a 10 minute walk up from the center meaning you have incredible views looking over Sorrento and the sea. If your budget allows then go for a room with terrace and sea view - just magical!! The staff are so kind and friendly. The pool area is wonderful and gets so much sun throughout the whole day. Amazing restaurant and breakfast area with incredible views. Staff taking lots of covid precautions - masks always worn, lots of hand sanitizer throughout the hotel, buffet served by staff from behind plastic screen etc. Would recomend 100%!
So pleased we went back after two years. Really love this hotel and the effort and enthusiasm of Nino and the team. They were working hard to deal with the changes to serving for Covid requirements and had a breakfast and evening salad buffet served from behind screens by the staff. Beautiful views from the terraces and room balcony. Best meal was salted cod in tempura on a pumpkin purée !
My boyfriend and I visited this hotel for 6 nights and we were blown away. From the hardworking and friendly staff, to the amazing breakfasts, to the lovely pool, this hotel is just incredible. Stay here if you want a magical, homely stay, nestled away from the busy central square of Sorrento. Big shout out to Franco who made our time by the pool an enjoyable one!
