Detailed Reviews
For a two Star hotel this was 5 stars for my family and I. Great breakfast and they kept our room nice and tidy. Beautiful views and not too far of a walk to Sorrento City Center. Best of all were the ladies that served breakfast and cleaned our rooms. Very friendly, they loved our children and gave them gifts. Very nice experience through and through. They also provided an extra bed at a very fair price which included breakfast for the extra person! Thank you, cannot thank you enough for making us feel as part of your family.

After 24 years since my last visit, the Hotel Desiree is even more delightful than I remembered. Corinna, Marco and Pasquale at the front desk were incredibly charming and helpful with a variety of questions regarding transportation, things to see and restaurant recommendations and Annamaria in the breakfast room (included in the room price) was an absolute treasure, patiently putting up with my rusty classroom Italian. Our spacious room with a "garden view" overlooked the valley below the cliff on which the hotel stands as well as a gorgeous slice of the bluest water you'll ever see. With access to the private beach (down quite a few steps and an elevator ride down the cliff) and then views from both the room and the terrace, including several encounters with the resident cat, the hotel was a perfect spot for our 8-night stay and a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Rather than take the local bus up and down the hill into the center of Sorrento, we opted for the walk which includes breathtaking views of the water and the harbor, two tiny waterfalls, an olive grove and Mt. Etna in the distance during the 15 minutes it takes to hit the main stretch of the town. Because of a few complicated trips on the Circumvesuviana train line, the staff at Hotel Desiree suggested we opt for a mini-bus shuttle to get us back to Naples in time for our connection to Rome and then home to NYC and they were kind enough to make the arrangements on our behalf which proved to be a lifesaver.

We really enjoyed the great location: view of Vesuvius (from the roof terrace) and of the wooded gorge and sea (from our balcony). The elevator took us to the quiet private beach with a restaurant and bar (shared with Hotel Tonnarella). For us, this is the most beautiful beach in the area! Sorrento, Pizzeria Verde Mare with delicious pizza and the Regina Giovanni bath are within easy walking distance. The breakfast is super delicious, the staff super friendly and the reception very helpful. We had a dream vacation with good value for money! Our small children also really enjoyed it.

One night stay following a wedding in the center of Sorrento.
I don't feel like recommending this hotel for a holiday, the only plus point is the proximity to the center on foot (just 10 minutes) and the presence of a private beach. Super friendly staff.
I have to be honest, the room was clean, but certainly old, the bathroom was not very functional (where the drain didn't work) and you could hear any noise coming from the other rooms. The breakfast was just mediocre.
For a night's rest you can go, for a holiday (perhaps the only holiday you give yourself after a year of work) I would say that you can certainly and certainly aim for better.

First of all, I would like to point out that this review, like all my others, is intended to be a help in choosing for people like me who read the comments before deciding where to stay so I will try to be objective and honest.
I'll start by saying that the location is definitely good, within walking distance of the center of Sorrento. It offers a small secure car park. On the road there are several bus stops (although I'm sure that before booking I had read about a free shuttle service from the hotel to Sorrento and vice versa, a service which later also disappeared from the description...).
The reception staff were always very kind giving us lots of information and advice. Breakfast with very good homemade desserts in addition to the traditional croissants and savory dishes. It's a shame that the so-called staff is more busy chatting in the kitchen than waiting for customers, perhaps a little more attention to those who enter...
But hotel also means rooms... Here....
Room so small that the entrance door scrapes against the mattress of the double bed when opened. Obviously on that side there is no bedside table... The wardrobe is a single door of about 40 cm.... No power socket near the bed...
No shelves or other solution for suitcases. However, I must say that the cleaning of the room was excellent and the towels were changed almost daily. In the bathroom, however, there is no trace of hooks of any kind for towels which therefore must be left on the sink surface. In the shower cubicle there is also no support for shampoo and shower gel. No bidets. Positive note: a nice large terrace with a side view of the sea. No safe or minibar: the fridge is common in the corridor and the safe is managed by the person at reception. Let's say that I also managed to accept these last two things but....we wait a year for the summer holidays and here Booking has completely screwed up. However, I want to highlight the other positive aspects in the small private beach (although not exactly well-kept) and the common terrace with a beautiful view of the gulf.

Service:
The staff seemed somewhat aloof and uninterested in helping us, coming across as slightly arrogant. We requested gluten-free food, but it wasn’t provided until the second day after we had to repeatedly ask. Even then, they mentioned that we might have to pay extra, despite breakfast being included and their website stating that they offer gluten-free options. Communication was difficult as several staff members barely spoke English, and we had to rely on translation apps to make ourselves understood.
Room:
The bathroom door was very thin, so we could hear everything from inside. The room’s appearance didn’t match the photos on the website at all. Additionally, the innermost room had issues with the electrical system—my laptop became static while charging, and the lights would turn on and off randomly.
Breakfast:
The breakfast selection was extremely basic, consisting mostly of cakes. Fortunately, there were (very hard-boiled) eggs and tomatoes with cheese, but overall, the options were poor. They also ran out of food like eggs towards the end of the breakfast.
Beach:
You had to pay for a sunbed, with no option to simply lie on the beach without one. This wasn’t mentioned on the website. The beach was also very rocky, with large waves, making swimming somewhat uncomfortable. On the other hand, there were always available sunbeds, which was a plus.
Location:
The location was generally good, compared to a lot of other options. There was an elevator and stairs down to the beach, and the town was within walking distance. Also, the view from the hotel was great.

This is a nice 2 star with good views, comfortable rooms, great staff and a very good breakfast. Our room had a nice balcony with a partial sea view and the relaxing sound of a mountain stream and a little waterfall in the ravine below. Rooms were comfortable, although the shower was tiny. The location is up the hill outside of town, so you're a bit out of the mix. It is on the bus line, but we found buses hit or miss with stops not well marked in the town. There is no elevator, and we had to climb a few fights to get to breakfast. Porters will help with bags, and all the staff was very helpful with everything else. Deck furniture was cheap and uncomfortable. Beds were nice and the breakfast was great.

Helpful from moment we arrived until our last. Desk staff literally couldn’t be more obliging. Breakfast lady was a lovely child friendly character who made us very welcome. Made a special hot chocolate for my daughter. Cleaning was very high standard. Location we liked as it is out of town and so quiet for children and sleep. Walk to busy Sorrento 5-7 minutes. If you have children between 6 and 11, want a view, not a massive bill. This is definitely a hotel to consider. I doubt you will find a more caring group of staff.

I recently stayed at Hotel Desiree and had an outstanding experience, particularly due to the amazing breakfast service. Each morning, I looked forward to starting my day with the delightful spread and cappuccinos!!
A special mention goes to Annamarie, who truly made the breakfast experience memorable. Her warm smile, attentiveness, and dedication to ensuring each guest’s satisfaction were remarkable. We were traveling with 24 school children and her attentiveness and kind heart was beyond memorable for these kids. Annamarie went above and beyond to accommodate dietary preferences and always greeted us with a cheerful demeanor, making us feel right at home. Her fresh cakes and pastries each morning are definitely a favorite memory!

The strong points of this hotel are certainly 2. The first is the staff. Evidently for these places being kind to others and, above all, to children is a given! But believe me it's not like that! They go out of their way to give you advice, to help you, to make you feel "at home".
The second is the location. In less than 10' you can reach magnificent Sorrento on foot! And what a walk! Directly on the tuff cliff by the sea, panoramic to say the least! The only sore point, but which does not affect my opinion, is that the rooms are really really dated! The cleanliness, however, is absolutely excellent and so...long live the Desiree hotel and its breathtaking balcony! Long live Sorrento!
Greetings to Antonio and all his much appreciated advice

Not sure about the pool. Train station is a 20min walk from the hotel. Recommend to take SITA bus(drops you in 5mins). Check the SITA bus schedule(google maps), you can get the bus ticket prior from a nearby tobacco shop.
No there isn't. However they do provide fans. We were there in March and didn't even need the fans, in fact we were happy for the radiator heat!
