Detailed Reviews
We chose Il Giglio Bianco as a place to stay while in Sorrento when we saw its website and read the very positive reviews from other travellers on Trip Advisor. When we got there, we found everything we had expected - friendly, attentive service, pretty bedroom and balcony, fresh linen when we wanted and even a small fridge - a welcome asset during the high July temperatures.
The breakfasts were delicious but very sweet - croissants, tiny sponge cakes and freshly baked tarts and cakes provided by Mario's wife, Maria, and his mother. Some yoghurt and fruit was available also.
Mario was always on hand to provide juices and freshly brewed coffee. He also had very useful advice to offer regarding public transport.e.g. best way to travel to and from Rome etc.
During our 8 day stay there, we met a variety of combinations of guests - a Danish family, a Northern European woman travelling solo and a group of Americans ' doing Europe'. For some, the availability of WiFi was a real attraction. For all, Il Giglio Bianco was a safe and peaceful haven from which to enjoy the pleasures of Sorrento.
We relished the climb back in the evenings and then the stairs up to our room, imagining the reduced waistbands that would be our reward - but oh those croissants!!
I would recommend Il Giglio Bianco as a quiet, safe and friendly base for a short holiday in Sorrento or as a pretty stop over while touring the Amalfi Coast.
We have fond memories of Il Giglio and would be happy to include it in our itinerary in the future.

Il Giglio was a treat to stay at while in Sorrento. The breakfasts were very good, and snacks were available if you needed more food in Italy. Mario and his brother were great. Looking typical tourists, Mario spotted us as we walked up the road to the B&B. Turned his motorcycle around and helped us up the hill. We would definitely stay there again.

Mario was a great host! He carried our bag on the stairs on arrival and departure to and from the 3rd floor :) and made our coffee every morning. The B&B is extremely clean, spacious and there are lovely furnishings. We had a lovely balcony with chairs & table to unwind in the evenings. The breakfast was gorgeous, hot pastries with the usual continental. Bear in mind the B&B is on the 4th floor and there is no elevator, although this was no problem for us, just thought to mention it in case this would matter to you. There were lots of clean towels provided, hair drier, a little fridge in the room and air conditioning. It's not on a main road, so it's lovely and quiet and gives you the chance to experience "living" in Sorrento. It's close enough to the Circumvesuviana train station (going to Naples, Pompei & Herculaneum) and about 20 minutes max walk from the port (Marina Grande), where you can get a boat for other Amalfi Coast destinations. We will definitely return to Il Giglio whenever heading back to Sorrento, loved it! :)

Room was big and had a balcony with a nice view. The water pressure in the shower was good. Bed was comfy for me (but my wife didn't think so).
Ok, now the bad parts:
The breakfast was poor compared to other b&bs I've stayed in Italy, the cocoa powder was expired, and when I opened a jelly sachee there was mold in it. I thought it was safe only to eat whatever the owner was putting on the table every morning, because the other stuff that was already on the table might have been there for a very long time! Besides, the cutlery in the drawer was dirty, I had to take the spoon to my room and wash it before using it.
The last thing that disappointed me was the air conditioner, I didn't need to turn it on until the last day, when I found out it was not working... I rang the office doorbell but no one answered.
Well, the room itself was not bad but with all these inconveniences I didn't understand all the "certificate of excellence" stickers on the wall. I guess tripadvisor is not as reliable as I thought.

We stayed four nights and it was an ok place to stay. Check-in went well, Angelo was waiting for us when we got there. Our room was clean and a good size for two people. All of the walls were painted white, no color at all in the room, so it felt a little drab. The shower was small, the size of a small telephone booth, not a lot of room for an average-sized person. The balcony was a good size with a pleasant view which was nice. The room was cleaned three of the four days we stayed there. The coffee maker ran out of water and milk the first two mornings we were there, and no one was around to fix it. The breakfast was average, the same three pastries and yogurt selections everyday which got old by the third and fourth mornings. Upon checkout, Angelo’s brother attempted to charge us a different rate than what we booked at online, but after showing our agreement and a quick phone call, it was ironed out. The location was below average. The beaches are a 20-30 minute walk, the main streets are a 10-15 minute walk, and there isn’t a lot of quality dining options around the bed and breakfast. Overall, the place was clean and the price was reasonable. We were expecting more from a place with such high overall reviews. It was just an ok stay for us.

I felt that once we were there, Mario lost interest in making us welcome. Good points: the room was clean (although there was an ancient boiled sweet stuck to the floor, next to the bed) and there was a small balcony and a nice en-suite bathroom. Only 5 minutes leisurely walk from the centre of Sorrento. Bad points: up 6 flights of marble stairs which was exhausting. Mario carried our cases up when we arrived but made sure he was absent when we left (despite asking us for the time of departure); we are two ladies, one recovering from a knee operation, and had to carry cases down 3 floors; there was no response to knocking on his door and ringing the bell for assistance and, as my friend said, he'd got the money from us so wasn't bothered any more. The bathroom had no shower gel or soap and we had to supply our own, which I thought was mean. The breakfast was basic - croissant, cake, biscuit and juice, tea or coffee. No safe in the room meant valuables were vulnerable. TV only had Italian stations. Finally, although the bed felt comfortable, I had a cripplingly sore back all the time I stayed there which cleared up when I returned home. Mario had asked us to check out by 11 but on the last morning, asked us to vacate the room in half an hour (at 10 am), which rushed us. We were told we could leave our cases until we were ready to leave Sorrento - these were left in the reception area on their own and anyone could have helped themselves to the contents. He also asked us to leave the keys on the side which, as he wasn't around when we returned, would have ensured we missed the return flight. Fortunately, we ignored this request. He demanded payment in cash, did not offer us change but rounded up to the nearest 10 euro and did not provide a receipt. Draw your own conclusions. I also didn't appreciate Mario's habit of staring at my breasts - conduct which I would expect from a 14 year-old boy, not a full-grown man - and he seemed to have to drag his eyes up to my face every morning. Most unpleasant. Looking at alternative accommodation in Sorrento, I felt Il Giglio was slightly overpriced for what we got. It disappointed; I would not recommend and would not return there.

Excellent quaint, clean B&B with good location for walking to major sites and restaurants in Sorrento. Difficult to find with their website directions and if you do not carry international cell phone w/you then it is tough trying to call them for assistance in locating the spot.
No elevators, so if stairs bother you look for another spot.
Other than that, once there it is comfortable and basic breakfast is provided.

Il Giglio Bianco has great and spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are also good. The place is quite new. Mario was kind enough to pick us up at the station and helped us with our luggage.
The apartment is quite a walk - ( uphill and a further 3 floors since the apartment is on 3rd floor ) from the station. You will need to go to the station often to take buses or trains to pompeii or amalfi. After a long day walking around amalfi, capri, sorrento , climbing another 3 storeys is the last thing you will want to do.
Breakfast including coffee is good and sufficient. There is no kitchen or access to a kitchen. We were surprised that there was no toaster or a kettle esp if you wanted to make tea at other times. When I requested for one, Mario told me that I had to make my own arrangement. However, his brother, who happened to be there one of the days was more forthcoming and in fact taught me how to use the coffee machine.

We enjoyed our stay. The roo. Was clean and comfortable. Shower is very small but the rest of the space was comfortable. We enjoyed the balcony. The breakfast was a typical Italian breakfast. Nutella croissants. Good coffee. Could have get a clean set of towels. But owner is very friendly and speak English. He was very accommodating and did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible

We spent 4 nights in this B&B; it is situated on the top floor of an old building with no lift but very good located, only 10 min walk to Piazza Tasso and Corso Italia, the main shopping street. Angelo, the owner, was waiting for us, even if it was after 11 pm, and helped with the luggage. Our room was big with a nice balcony and twin comfy beds. Towels were provided but during our 4 days stay never changed.
Beside not changing the towels, the only negative thing was the breakfast: same sweet croissants each day and some packed cookies. Very cheap yoghurt, some multivitamin juice and coffee/tea. No fruits or pies (don't be mislead by the nice photos !), no toast or crackers to eat with butter and jam. So if you don't spend too much time in Sorrento and want a cheap but clean accomodation, Il Giglio Bianco is an OK place. If you expect more, than go somewhere else!
