Matera is extraordinary. We spent our time tramping the streets of the 'Sassi' - this place is perfectly positioned for that. The room was great - part cave - the lounge area well appointed and the roof terrace spartan but fit for purpose. The ladies - we don't remember their names - really looked after us, They even found us a kettle so we could make a cup of tea!
Just wanted to say thank you to the young man who went out of his way to help us in a day we could not get to our AirnB because they were filming the James Bond movie and many streets were close. He gave us water and offered to make a phone call. Bravo, que gentile, typical of the Matera hospitality we encountered. Our impression of the establishment was great!
The only way to experience the unique architecture of Matera is to stay in a boutique B&B like Alle Conche. Our rooms were tastefully styled to show off the large domed roofs and to create a cosy environment for a chilly winter stay. The receptionist was very helpful and went out of her way to assist us with parking and breakfast. The provided breakfast was excellent and the common areas are perfect for relaxing after a day exploring.
We just visited the beautiful sassi di Matera and stayed at Alle Conche. We were two adults and three children ages 8,12,15 and we could not of been more comfortable. From the communication prior to arriving to all our interactions with staff they were beyond helpful. We changed our dates last minute as our flights changed and they were so accomodating. Frederica arranged a taxi for us to pick us up from Bari as we arrived at 10.30pm. We didn’t arrive at Alle Conche until midnight however they were waiting for us and checked us in so we could get some rest. The beds are so comfortable the decor lovely and the rooms beautiful. They were spotlessly clean and breakfast was just perfect. I could not recommend Alle Conche highly enough. It is elegant and stylish and in the heart of the sassi. The other advantage is that a car can drive right up to the door so you can unload your luggage then you have only 20 stairs up to reception. Thank you Frederica and Alle Conche for making our time in Matera so special we loved it. …
We stayed at this boutique bed and breakfast, right in the Sassi of Matera, in May. We were welcomed by the delightful, helpful Chioura (hope my spelling is right!). Our bedroom was below the actual house in a ‘cave’ room that was modern, large and bright. If that sounds unique, it was!! Lovely ensuite bathroom. Breakfast was served in the main building, up a flight of stairs .... and what a breakfast!! The owner is a wonderful baker and it was the first time I went out of my way to eat pastry for breakfast in Italy! Truly wonderful and she took such pride in her creations! Lovely rooftop terrace to enjoy a bottle of wine, admiring the most wonderful view. Chioura gave us recommendations for two wonderful restaurants, very close by. Wonderful stay! Matera is a really unique, wonderful place. We hired a local tour guide and I would recommend it for the history alone. Lots of hills!…
