Last night we slept in one of the bigger rooms with kitchette. The room was very spacious. The location of the hotel is amazing. You wake up, step out of the room and you have an amazing Sassi view in front of you. The hotel is not easy to find because it is in the middle of the narrow streets... More

Unique experience to sleep in a cave in a UNESCO heritage site. Walking distance to all the local sites in Matera - great for rambling through the old stone streets in town or hiking the valley below the Sassi. Glad we did not bring my parents who have some mobility concerns. It's a cave so, yes,a touch damp, but that's... More

It is a rare experience to sleep in a cave - here you can try it! Beside you have a confortable room, with a large bed, TV, bathroom, and so on. It is in the Salli, but not so far to leave your car at 200-300 meters away. Excellent view of Sassi from the front of the Hotel! Could have... More

We stayed for one night and payed cash for everything. I had done the reservation through Venere who had requested for our credit card info to just make the reservation. We never gave them our credit card information and told them that we would be paying in cash for everything so for them to make sure that nothing was going... More

Very enjoyable meal. Had the tourist menu which was good quality and value for money. Restaurant was set in a house in the Sassi so very authentic but nicely decorated inside. Very close to the Saint Pietro church which is well worth a visit.

Let's start with the good. The location, it was right in the Sassi which was convenient for walking into the beautiful town. The view was wonderful and the parking was very close and free. Now the bad, everything else. The room was musty and disgusting. We slept on what felt like fold out couches. The decor was from a horrible... More

We slept very comfortably in a grotto of this ancient city. Their resteraunt was very close to our room and was also a grotto. Nearby was the largest underground church. In fact nearly all the old city is in grottos and has prehistory origins. The fronts appear normal but the rest is underground. Many people would recognise bits of it... More

Sleeping in a Sassi (a cave house in the old slums of Matera - now sanitized, picturesque and visitor friendly) sounds great and we're glad we did it, but be prepared for a humid night. The dehumidifier did its best but caves are damp places. The room was pretty well equipped although the shower head fixing was broken. However, unusually... More

We stayed 2 nights and in the end we loved this stay. Our experience was a little different to others though. When we arrived we found parking to be a real issue. Unlike other reviewers, there was no opportunity to park nearby and the staff were unable to help with alternatives (their English, while better than our Italian was not... More

The positives: the setting with a magnificient view over Matera, peggy the dog, the building of the residence - very beautiful typical Matera sassi building. The negatives: humidity, humidity, humidity, wet sheets, very unconfortable beds, dirty and humid carpets, stench due to humidity, average breakfast. Experience not to be repeated. Caught a cold in the process. To be honest i... More

“Some rooms have kitchens - since I was alone and there just for two nights I didn't need one. But there was a nice family there with two small kids who made dinner each night to save some money - huge bonus for a family vacation to Italy!”
