Detailed Reviews
My husband booked one of the cottages for a six night stay at Cottiscarth Cottages. I had no idea where we were staying so it was a huge surprise to arrive and see the quality of the place. We were greeted by Robbie & Eileen on arrival and they were so friendly and welcoming. The cottage is very comfortable, immaculate and very modern in its decor. It has been kitted out to the highest standard and we instantly felt at home.
We found the cottages to be of an excellent location for exploring the mainland and within easy driving of the ferry ports for travelling further. We were lucky to be able to watch the Log Pull in Stromness on Hogmanay and The Ba in Kirkwall on New Years Day. We found a few places were closed due to it being the winter season but I highly recommend visiting at this time of year.

Our second stay at Hen Harrier Cottage and we were just as happy and pleased with all aspects of our stay. The personal welcome from Robbie and Eileen is very special, and they really do everything they can to accommodate your needs and make your stay as perfect as they can. A very comfortable and well equipped house, beautiful scenery and surrounded by amazing wildlife, hares, and an abundance of bird life. With just a 20 minute drive either direction to Kirkwall or Stromness, it’s a great central location for exploring the island and most sites of interest are only a short drive away. I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough, and I can’t wait to return. Thank you again Robbie and Eileen, your service and hospitality is exceptional. Hopefully see you soon! Xx

Absolutely excellent accommodation, in a perfect location for exploring the whole island. The house is immaculate, very comfortable, very well equipped and has the most beautiful views from the comfort of your settee! All rooms very spacious with a lovely large shower room, and I immediately felt at home. The personal welcome from Robbie and the welcome gift of local goodies were very special and very much appreciated. I cannot wait to return in the Spring, and I cannot recommend highly enough!

Our first visit to Orkney was made so much more special due to our stay in 'Hen Harrier' at Cotticarth Cottages. The welcome was friendly and inviting, the welcome pack was lovely - full of lots of local delicacies to help you settle. The cottages are ideally placed to travel anywhere on Mainland, or indeed any day trips out to other islands. They are modern, comfortable and well maintained with fabulous views over the island (see photo for view from the main window). Lots of facilities, all kept in clean and pristine condition. We would highly recommend these cottages to anyone looking for a stay on these wonderful Islands. Thankyou so much.

+1
After a lovely warm welcome from Eileen and Robbie, we settled in to our cottage, we were in Kestrel. The cottage had absolutely everything you could possibly need to make you stay perfect. The underfloor heating was fantastic. The hamper of Orkney products and Orkney butter and cheese was a lovely idea. We loved watching the sheep and cows in the field behind the cottage, from the kitchen window, almost as much as they enjoyed watching us! There was also a brown hare living in the field and we saw a female hen harrier from the front window. Kirkwall and Stromness are 20 minutes away. A walk up to the RSPB bird hide is worth the walk. The Standing stones of Stenness, the Ring of Brodgar and Maeshow are only 15 minutes by car.
Cuween Chambered Hill cairn is 10 minutes drive, and fascinating, you have to crawl through the entrance to the main chamber and you'll need a torch.
The Churchill Barriers and the Italian Chapel are less than half an hour away.
Make sure you carry on to St. Margaret's Hope and call in to The Murray Arms, the food is delicious.
Will definitely be back to Orkney and would only consider staying at Cottiscarth cottages.

We stayed in Hen Harrier, which was maintained and equipped to the highest standards. Well designed and well thought out. Couldn’t think of anything that was missing.
Eileen and Robbie are also the perfect hosts - such lovely people.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom cottage sharing with friends. The cottage was new this year. The rooms are spacious, the beds are very comfortable and the kitchen area is very well equipped. The cottage commanded extensive views to the east across the water and it was in a peaceful location while being within 20 minutes or so in the car of most places you would want to go on the mainland of Orkney. A welcome pack of lovely Orkney produce was provided. I saw a beautiful female hen harrier in the morning sunshine from the RSPB hide just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and hope to return soon.

A group of us took all three cottages for a week. Really well appointed, comfortable houses. Quality telescopes provided for bird watching (RSPB hide just up the lane). Wi-fi excellent. Robbie and Eileen Fraser the best possible hosts. Highly recommended.
