My husband booked one of the cottages for a six night stay at Cottiscarth Cottages. I had no idea where we were staying so it was a huge surprise to arrive and see the quality of the place. We were greeted by Robbie & Eileen on arrival and they were so friendly and welcoming. The cottage is very comfortable, immaculate and very modern in its decor. It has been kitted out to the highest standard and we instantly felt at home. We found the cottages to be of an excellent location for exploring the mainland and within easy driving of the ferry ports for travelling further. We were lucky to be able to watch the Log Pull in Stromness on Hogmanay and The Ba in Kirkwall on New Years Day. We found a few places were closed due to it being the winter season but I highly recommend visiting at this time of year.…
Oh what a wonderful few days we have just enjoyed. 8 Irish tour guides on our jollies. This place is perfect. The wires the peace and quiet. everything you need... every thing. Eileen and Robbie are so kind and welcoming. And just a phone call away if needed. The houses are so clean and warm and I just can't express how lovely our stay was. I hope I get to return to Orkney, I will definitely be staying here 😘 thanks for the wonderful welcome the incredible views and the seriously comfortable lodgings. See you soon.
There are three cottages together so this is a great venue for a large group to be able to stay together using them all and just as good for a family or a smaller group to occupy one of them. The cottages are In a beautiful environment and are a great launch pad for seeing all corners of Mainland. So much care and attention has gone into equipping them, right down to a telescope which offered hours of enjoyment as did the tranquil rural view. The icing on the cake were our hosts, Eileen and Robbie.
We stayed in Kestrel cottage during some wet and windy weather but the facilities were all superb and made our holiday very comfortable indeed. Set in quiet countryside with fabulous views Cottiscarth is within easy reach of all the prehistoric sites on Orkney mainland. Robbie and Eileen host with care providing bird and local information guide books as well as food welcome pack making arrival special. This place was a real treat!
We stayed in a 2-bedroom cottage sharing with friends. The cottage was new this year. The rooms are spacious, the beds are very comfortable and the kitchen area is very well equipped. The cottage commanded extensive views to the east across the water and it was in a peaceful location while being within 20 minutes or so in the car of most places you would want to go on the mainland of Orkney. A welcome pack of lovely Orkney produce was provided. I saw a beautiful female hen harrier in the morning sunshine from the RSPB hide just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and hope to return soon.
