I stayed at the Principal in Madrid for one night on business. I arrived quite late for check in - after a Spanish dinner. I arrived to see that the only receptionist on site was battling with a group of Russians to check them in....More

Elegant hotel centrally located to everything. Rooms are not big, but are well designed. The outdoor terraces, including the roof-top terrace, are lovely and great for meals or drinks. The staff on concierge and at reception are very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.More

Visited the Principal Madrid for vacation at the end of August 2018. I’m Platinum Premier (75) with SPG and now Marriott.
Was excited to stay at this property given the glowing reviews, but on reality, it wasn’t spectacular. The first problem was with the SPG...More
The Principal Madrid Hotel is much more than a luxurious modern boutique hotel. Its prime location in the heart of Madrid, its exclusive entrance, its 76 elegantly appointed rooms, the stunning Terraza …More(rooftop terrace,7th floor) with what may be the best views in Madrid, and its Ático (penthouse, 6th floor) where avant-garde haute cuisine meets classic cocktails in a space with the best music are reasons enough not to miss the opportunity of discovering this renovated building, now one of the capital’s must-see sights. The hotel’s impressive Ático and Terraza boast the best panoramic views of downtown Madrid. In both, amid large, lush garden areas, you can sip a cocktail or order from the menu concocted by Ramón Freixa (2 Michelin stars), soak up some sun in the Solarium or enjoy the sound of the overflow pool and the best ambient music or our outdoor showers in summer… and always with the finest service to ensure that your every wish is granted. Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.

No unfortunately. There is a large water feature on the roof of the hotel with a bar and several 'beach' lounges close by. You may be able to "splash around" in the water feature but it is not a swimming pool.
