Decent little hotel in a busy, party like area of Madrid. Positives: Breakfast included, free internet, ensuite bathrooms, great location (amazing Tapas bar 4 doors down). Negatives: On the second floor, no elevator, walls kind of thin, a/c didn't seem to be working in all rooms, ran out of hot water easily and the beds weren't too comfortable. Value for...

Just got back from seeing Alicia Keys in Madrid and we stayed in this hostel. It's nice, as I had never been to hostel that I had ever liked. It was only 90 Euros and although the room wasn't the largest ever it felt comfortable and warm (it was freezing outside!). We managed to move around the city from the...

Visited Madrid again in February this year, Decided to stay at The Chic & Basic Colors. The website looked great and it was cheap enough and a god location. Arrived and it was a great location, just a minute or 2 away from Sol. 5-10 mins to Gran Via or Chueca. There is no lift and its on the second...

There are probably no hotels or hostels as central and tastefully decorated as this in Madrid at this price. It's clean, friendly, simple and reasonably comfortable. If it wasn't so cheap, however, it would be unacceptable for anyone except young backpackers or people who aren't bothered by extremely cramped rooms, and a limited do-it-yourself breakfast. The shower runs out of...

Living at the "Chic & Basic Colors" hostal in Madrid is like a dream come true. The rooms were lovely decorated in beautiful colors, nice and clean and with a nice breeze of the air conditioning. The hostal is situated on a quiet walking street in the heart of the busy city within walking distance of many major attractions. There...

This property has an excellent location near Puerta del Sol. You can walk and metro from here easily. For us, the hotel was literally our favorite part about Madrid. Its on a pedestrian street, so you won't hear the cars, but you may hear the people below well into the wee hours of the morning if you stay in a...

This hostal was a big disappointment for us! It looked very nice on the internet and it seemed professional. But when we arrived after a long journey we had to wait 2,5 hours for a closed door because all the staff was having lunch. (by the way, they are always closed for lunch and after 10 p.m.) We were yelled...

We stayed for one night in the purple room which was really cool and stylish. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel - friendly and you felt very free - and such a new concept! The idea with the breakfast-table where you can help yourself is really one of the best ideas I have experienced for a long time. The...

We stayed in a room at the front. Everything is fine until you are woken up at 2am by drunken singing, shouting, etc from the street below - this area is FULL of bars. This goes on until 4.30am, until the trucks arrive to clean up - cue sound of 100s of bottles being crashed around. Then look forward to...

We stayed at 7 Colors for 3 nights. The first night we had the yellow room, facing the street and the common lounge. On weekends you will hear all the fun happening at street level until at least 3 am. As the walls in the hostel are paper thin, starting at 7am (or whenever the first guests awake) you will...

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
