When visiting Madrid this place ticks many boxes - location excellent - very central close to Sol Metro and the sights. Dining bars - right in the heart of it . Cost - reasonable for the location . We were a family of 4 and chose the El Tiempo because of it's central location - It is down a pedestrian... More

Pros Clean, excellent central location, friendly staff, free wifi, secure entry. Cons Now, I expect noise from the street due to location and the culture. It wasnt too bad and doesnt last til very late, i'm fine with that. But what annoyed me being constantly woken up in the mornings (inbetween 7-10) by people and talking loudly in the corridors.... Right in the heart of the city, a great selection of dining and bars to choose from close by. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the area. A walk from the tour bus stops and the main square. The staff were very friendly, bit hard to understand as they did not speak english but we muddled through with a... More

Four of us stayed in a deluxe apartment which was very spacious and well equipped with a full size fridge, washing machine and a generous sized bathroom. The apartment was really well situated with it being minutes from both Sol station and Calle Gran Via, which suited us perfectly. The breakfasts included were typical continental fare with meats, cheeses, fruits... More

Visited this hotel with my boyfriend on a budget weekend trip, we were not disappointed. Right in the heart of the city with a wonderful selection of restaurants and bars in the local area at night. Walking distance to tour bus stop and underground. Breakfast was substantial, room was with a street view - a little loud at night but... More

It's just a hostel. Not for this price anyone could get with autumn discount even 3 star hotel close to Gran Via. Very small, dark rooms ( we got one with small hole instead of window that we didn't even know if it is day or still night ). Anyway, staff very friendly and rooms were cleaned each day. Traditional... More

This hotel is perfectly situated, close to everything. Room was really clean and modernish looking. Staff were brilliant and helpful. Great price, would have expected it to be more expensive due to its central location.

Good location, big clean room, comfortable bed.The room we stayed in has a very small kitchen with fridge which was handy. Great shower and plenty toiletries. The staff friendly, breakfast great in the restaurant and WiFi very efficient. The hotel is not suitable for people struggle with stairs as the lift is on the first floor. one thing I would... More

It is a slightly weird place. Rooms located above same name El Busco Del Tiempo restaurant and it is definitely not for handicapped or those having hard time with stairs. There is no front lobby or dedicated parking or easily recognizable hotel front entry. There is just a door and then you have to go upstairs 2 flights just to... More

Overall, I was very happy with this place, all things considered. Clean, comfortable, good central location and all at a very reasonable price. For the money, it's really hard to beat honestly. The room was spacious, very clean, and even had a fridge and mini kitchen. I wouldn't call it luxurious, but it certainly wasn't spartan or super basic either.... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
