This hotel is very close to the city center. There are a couple metro stations on walking distnce - Opera, Callao and Sol. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. The breakfast was a little bit poor and needs to have more variety of food. Special thanks to Barbara at the front desk for her polite attitude...

This is the second time we stayed at a Room Mate (first was in Barcelona). Staff are friendly, the room is clean and contemporary, the breakfast buffet (7 - noon) is satisfying and the hotel is in the centre of the action. Perhaps a small thing to some but the hotel also gave us a pocket-size rechargeable wireless transceiver to...

We loved Laura! It's often difficult to find hotels offering rooms big enough to accommodate a couple traveling with young kids. We stayed in one of Laura's "standard" Duplex rooms, which are very spacious. We slept upstairs and our 7 year-old boy downstairs on a very comfortable sofa-bed. There is plenty of wardrobe space, a safe, 2 TV sets and...

When first arriving the reception area is a bit like the entrance to a night club with it's red walls and big silver light globes and music playing so wondered if we had booked somewhere that attracts the younger generation. But no there were lots of other folk similar in age. This hotel is a little quirky with it's decor...

We couple stayed in a hotel for 6 nights, great location most attractions are within walking distance. We booked a duplex room, but when we arrived we asked to change the room because the bathroom and toilet were not on the same floor of the bed. We got a duplex suite included a kitchenette for an additional $ 10 per...

We had booked a 2 night stay in a Standard Double Room. Upon arrival the front desk staff suggested to upgrade our room for 20 Euro extra to their best room (I think it was a junior suite) on the top floor as we were travelling with our 1.5yr old. We agreed to pay the extra and stayed in a...

Our room was perfect because we had a bed on the mezzanine and so had a privacy - my daughter had a sofa bed on the first level. The location is very good The fact having a small kitchen helps to save some money

The hotel is in a very unique position in that it's in a small quiet corner within the busiest area of Madrid - it's very close to the important shopping areas without being too rambunctious & noisy. Decor is very modern without being tacky or "budget". The staff is nice enough to recommend to us the best places to eat...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
