This is a strange hotel that is like a rabbit warren inside the old buildings around the Opera district of Madrid. Originally booked in at the Room Mate Laura, but ended up here due to a mis calculation of dates. Great room. Great amenities.

Stayed here for couple nights in October. Location was great. 1 min from subway that we used to get around Madrid in which ran really efficient. Beautiful city and plenty great places to eat and drink. Hotel not far from some really nice restaurant's. The hotel it's self was decent but having stayed at room mate oscar before I expected... Visited the Hotel Mario Madrid with my family for a weekend whilst returning from Seville. This hotel is perfectly located for all the sites in Madrid, the staff are excellent, very helpful. Overall great value for money and a very modern clean hotel. The only downside are the bathrooms which are like a glass box in the corner of the... More

I had a wonderful stay here for 3 nights in November 2014 (sorry for the late review). As it was my first time to Madrid, I needed a comfortable hotel, and Room Mate Mario delivered that. Room was clean and cozy. Bed was comfortable. Staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Location is great, walking distance to bars, restaurants and shopping.... More

The room was a little on the small side, but unless that the room was clean. The staff was very friendly. Good location near the palacio. A few streets away from "plaza mayor". We recommend to go to calle cava bajas (the area of la latina) where you can have good drinks and great tapas. We enjoyed our stay and... More

Oh I absolutely loved this hotel! Very stylish, clean and great customer service. Situated just across Opera underground station and everything from here is walking distance and at every corner there are a variety of restaurants to choose from.

Lovely, quiet hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The stand out point for me was when my wife accidentally broke a glass on the room floor at 1am and within minutes of phoning reception we had someone at the door with a vaccum cleaner and hoovered our carpet to within an inch of its life. The mini bar... More

Everyone there is so helpful with great customer service. Every where they suggest is a must! Rooms are updated and very clean. Location is in one of the best areas of center Madrid, in front of the Opera theater. Subway is across the street and there are Taxis outside 24 hours a day. Everything from here is walking distance and... More

My husband and I could have not happier with the location, service and friendliness of this little hotel in the heart of Madrid. Our room was spacious and extremely warm (A big plus in winter!), quiet and very clean. The staff made us feel very comfortable and welcome, a true home from home. We would recommend Room Mate Mario any... More

I went to Madrid with my husband for a couple of days in May, and we chose to stay at Room Mate Mario because of its reviews. The location of this hotel is its main asset- it's very convenient for guests to go sightseeing by foot. If you choose to go by metro, the station is literaly just around the... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
