I was very disappointed with our stay in this hotel. It's a nice hotel in the Salamanca district, popular among fashion people, and nicely appointed, which all seems nice, right? The cosy feel of the hotel will let you forget some minor imperfections: the walls are a bit thin, the floors are very loud and you can hear people walking... More

My fiancee has sadly left her jacket in the room on check-out. We wrote the front desk to mail it to us some 10 hours later, as soon as we got to our next destination. The jacket was not there anymore, and it took us about three days to have the hotel fully respond to our emails and phone calls,... More

Totem. Wonderful reception staff, bar staff, rooms, beds, showers. The location was brilliant too as you are in a smart quiet area with great shops and cafes 10 minutes from Parc retiro and another 5 to the Prado.

Firstly I will say the staff in general were excellent. I don't think they knew the area they worked in very well (they didn't know anything about local Restaurants for example) but they were pleasant and given what they were working with they were very patient. In terms of the hotel. The rooms were spacious without being massive and the... More

Great location in the center of madrid on a quiet beautiful street. Impeccable and tasteful design, not one detail was skimmed. Everything including the mattress was of the highest quality. The staff was exceptional and went above and beyond to make sure that everything is perfect for their guests. I stayed there twice last week and had a minor problem... More

I travel to Madrid frequently and have previously stayed in multiple properties (Oscar, Only You, De Las Letras, etc.) and so far this is my favorite hotel in the city within the same price range. Location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the city, tourist attractions are walking distance and the shopping district is right next door. Taxi to... More

This hotel is in a wonderful location. Is clean and quiet and the staff very accommodating. The rooms are a nice size, clean and well maintained. The problem was the temperature in the rooms. If you want a more authentic Madrid experience, you may wish to consider Barrio Salamanca. The neoclassical buildings, abundance of small dogs, neat trees and rubbish-free sidewalks may remind you of NYC's Upper East Side. In this oasis of calm, Totem is a new, small hotel. The pros - friendly staff, comfortable beds, very clean, nice bathrooms with a big... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
