Perfect neighborhood (Salamanca), clean and modern, friendly staff, very central and walking distance from numerous shops and restaurants, nicely decorated, Perr Purr toiletries (which I discovered and enjoyed)... and affordable given all advantages. We very much enjoyed our stay and would book it again for our next trip to Madrid.

We love being in the Salamanca neighborhood with many small shops and restaurants. The hotel is small with a low key entry which we like as you feel more like you are coming home than to an enormous hotel. The lobby bar is very cool, super well decorated and the drinks were great. The breakfast is a la carte which we really liked, much more relaxing than a breakfast buffet. Our room was on the small side with a balcony and a large bathroom. The shower was great and the airco worked very well. The hotel is also close to Retiro park so we went running there a couple of the mornings. The staff were very friendly, especially the doormen, they went out of their way to help. We will be back!

I travelled to Madrid on a business trip just before the great pandemic - sadly my meeting got cancelled but I was able to make the most of this lovely city in the spring sunshine. The room was sleek and modern with a very nice bathroom and all the luxury amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful and made me feel very special. A lovely chilled bar with some great wine and cocktails and the restaurant was great.

The hotel is well located for anyone who enjoys food and shopping. The staff and friendly and helpful. They helped with a dinner reservation although I did have to call back after 20 mins to confirm if it was made and then was called back to say the restaurant was fully booked and alternative was suggested. Got the impression she might’ve forgotten originally but did book a lovely alternative so no problem. The only issue with the hotel was the lack of air conditioning. Apparently this isn’t on in winter months and the room got very stuffy. Opening the window isn’t ideal as an alternative to control the right temperature and it becomes more noisy. So not a great nights sleep. They moved our room second night but the issue was the same. The UK is cold and even basic hotels have A/C all year round so this definitely needs improving as a 5* hotel. Other than this key issue the rooms were good overall. Minor things like low quality toilet paper are noticeable though for what is a hotel trying to sell itself as lux (It’s the kind you have in a primary school). We didn’t eat in the hotel but the bar was an enjoyable setting for a drinks. Some other small points to note for a hotel looking to be leading and slickly operates 5* City hotel... - when we got to the room the bed was made up as a twin room when we’d requested a double. Rectified for the evening but this is a little lack in attention. - we had a bottle of white wine on ice in the room the first day that we didn’t get round to drinking. While having a drink in the bar I asked for it to be changed out so we would have a cold bottle in the room as we were heading up shortly. From the bar I watched them change the ice but not the bottle, so managed to catch them at the lift to change the actual bottle over. Ideally they’d have just done this. Or even better with the turn down service got a new bottle on ice without us having to ask. - I assume there is no service elevator either for room service etc? Trays of food seems to go up in the customer lift. I don’t usually write reviews, but stay in city hotels quite often. I would say this is a good city hotel for a weekend, but not at the 5* boutique level you might expect if you’re used to a JK Place type hotel where they’re one step ahead in terms of service at all times. Would stay again though if the air conditioning operated all year round.

I’ve just returned from a five night stay with my wife at the Totem. On arrival the hotel is contemporary, spacious and elegantly furnished. We were warmly welcomed by receptionist, and although we had arrived a few hours early, we were given our keys to our room. Our room was perfect for our requirements - a modern base for exploring in the heart of Salamanca. I would describe the size as cosy, but plenty room for the purposes of our stay. It’s perfect for a couples city break. The room was well appointed, minibar bathrobes, slippers etc. The hotel offer a turn down service on the evening. Housekeeping do a fantastic job. Room service menu looked good and varied. The hotel offers breakfast and has its own restaurant, though we did not make use of this ( so many great restaurants to check out in the city ). We had evening drinks in the bar which is well stocked. Cocktails were delicious, thanks to the bartender who recommended sangria with cava. Great choice. Location is fantastic, plenty of places to shop, eat and drink nearby. We took taxis into the central region on an evening but the entire city of Madrid is navigable by foot. It’s a lovely walk to the museums and back through the park. The measure of an excellent hotel is the customer service experience it offers its guests. This hotel certainly delivers. I was extremely impressed by how friendly and warm all staff were. I’d like to say thanks to Amanda in particular who made us feel truly welcome and couldn’t do enough to help us. A true professional. She is a credit to the team at Totem. My Spanish is not great, which was not a problem as staff spoke English well. Thanks Amanda for the great service and for making us laugh over ‘a reservation from the Whitehouse’ 🤣🤣
