just come back from long weekend, stayed in the Iberostar. brilliant location if you want to be in the center of things. Situated on main shopping street, 2 mins walk from Gran Via metro station. lovely old building with modern interior. We requested a room overlooking the Gran Via. We had french doors onto a little balcony which was lovely,...

We had a very good experience at this hotel. Location is great and reception staff were very helpful. Good ambience too. The room was very spacious and the small balcony overlooking the main granvia street gave it a typical European ambience. The only thing is they had no tea/ coffee provided in the room and the room service menu should...

Booked this hotel for a meeting and was pleasantly surprised. Fantastic location in the centre of everything--on Gran Via and 5 min from Sol. The meeting rooms overlook Gran via on the first floor and have floor to ceiling windows. It can be a bit noisy in daytime with traffic. The service here is just excellent. Stayed separate from meeting...

Stayed for four nights in this pleasant hotel. The room was well appointed (upgraded) and included coffee machine, king size bed and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided a good choice and we had a good meal one evening in the bar. The only drawback was the low lighting in the room and public areas.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights to spend a long weekend in Madrid. My sister and I loved this hotel. The beds were very comfortable, clean spacious rooms, friendly staff and delicious food. Breakfast is part of the room fee and is so good with many choices. I wish I could cook fried eggs like they do! We also ate a delightful dinner at the hotel. It's a very pretty hotel with an...

Very friendly staff on reception and in the bars. Room was really spacious and well decorated with the advantage of a wraparound balcony. The roof top bar has great views over the city and serves a mean gin and tonic. The receptionist recommended a great restaurant, El Rincon de Estaban, and we ate there 3 times.

This was my first visit to Madrid and it did not disappoint. This hotel is fab. The full review is on my site - details at the end. POSITIVES: The location is, without a doubt, one of the most superb in Madrid. Stayed here while on business for two nights. It is right on the main drag of Gran Via which is a huge busy street. Easy walk to most of the tourist attractions which is nice, but a pretty touristy area devoid of any real charm. Restaurants nearby are mostly fast. Food/tourist spots but if venture around you can find some...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
