Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

I stayed with my girlfriend regrettably only for a night at the Artrip in central Madrid. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Atocha main station and even closer to the Lavapies Metro. If you like Art, the Reina Sofia museum is a couple of blocks away. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel, is built on a small property and although its not the most spacious, the clever interior design make it very attractive and pleasant. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very modern. The price is very good for this part of Madrid. I would definitely recommend this hotel for people looking to explore central Madrid. Above all I would encourage a stay at the Artrip hotel over other similarly priced chain-hotels in the area because it is a family owned business and now more

Very helpful and friendly staff, just a few metres from the Lavapies metro and walking distance to the centre and the main attractions. We had 2 rooms, one standard double the other a suite. The children’s room was spacious with lots of light, 2nd floor (#201) facing the road. We had a suite on the 3rd floor, the room was very spacious, modern clean lines, and very functional, for once the shower was excellent. The only drawback with this room (#302) was its facing the inside walls, and no natural light really, couldn’t see what the weather was like till you stepped outside the hotel. For a short stay not really a problem. Breakfast was adequate, standard continental breakfast (good coffee). Would recommend, good value for money.

Stayed three nights. Owner very helpful and all employees friiendly. Extra clean, good breakfast, quiet location convenient to atroya train station and all museams. Early checkin if room available was greatly appreciated. Only downside was all glass doors in triple room so privacy impossible. We will return to this hotel.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. Very high quality rooms, great staff and amazing value for money. Great location close to Metro stops, trains stations and art museums. We visited in August which was very hot - the rooms had very good airconditioning to recover from the heat and the rooms are very quiet. Staff were very helpful in recommending and booking restaurants. The area around the hotel towards Lavapies have great cafe's and bars and feel much more "local" than the more touristy streets in the centre.

Great hotel, just opened 3 weeks ago, it's new, modern and well equipped with 2 a/c, tv, wifi.... Breakfast is just $4 and it's great! Greek yoghurt, crunchy cereals, yummy pastries, coffee... and the best thing is the price. If you are going to Madrid, and you want to go to a new hotel centrally located that you 'll love for around 60 euros per room, go there!!!
