Detailed Reviews
I have seldom experienced more friendly and accommodating service than at this independently owned hotel. In the last weeks of the Covid-19 state of emergency, the owner both gave me an upgrade and facilitated early check-in, as well as late check out. The room was very well designed throughout and felt spacious. The soundproofing and hot water were more than adequate. A gem: and a great chance to support a small, local business.

Artrip is a boutique hotel in Madrid, close to the three most popular museums - Prado, Reina-Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean, well maintained and secure. It is close to the Puerta del Sol, Retiro Park and the Royal Palace. Our room had a small balcony, overlooking the street, with abundant natural light. There are lots of restaurants nearby. Enjoyed our stay in the hotel.

I didn’t go to Madrid since before Covid19 and last time I stayed in Artrip too. I’m glad to see that it still is one of the best hotels I’m Madrid, starting for the great location in the downtown and the big, comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast (coffee is super good) but specially because the staff makes you feel at home all the time. Can’t wait to comeback asap

Before I say anything else I must say how helpful and friendly Lena and Javier were, the two young receptionists who look after everyone. They do an excellent job and they are an asset to the hotel. The other good points are that the beds are comfortable, it's warm, there's plenty of hot water and it's generally quiet. However, the big negative for us was that the standard room we were in was very basic and lacked things we would normally take for granted. Apart from a hanging rail for shirts and trousers there wasn't one drawer or one shelf to put the rest of your belongings. The bedside table at one side was a silly little round thing with a reading light and a telephone on it but hardly any space to put a book and a pair of reading glasses. There wasn't anywhere in the shower to put a shampoo or conditioner other than on the floor. There was one hard chair at a little desk unit and a little stool but nowhere to sit comfortably. It felt that nobody had given any thought to the basics and it was all style but no substance. Breakfast was a totally self service affair in the small, windowless, rather drab breakfast/kitchen room at the back of the hotel. You helped yourself to cutlery and crockery and everything else. It was a simple breakfast but adequate. Our feeling was that if you were younger and passing through Madrid for a couple of nights and happy to live out of a backpack, then this would suit you fine. As an older couple staying for five nights, we wanted to unpack, settle in and feel comfortable. This isn't a bad hotel but it didn't suit us at all.

This is a fine and modern hotel, well-located in the artsy Lavapiés district of Madrid, a short walk from Atocha train station and within an easy stroll from three of Madrid’s major museums: the Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen. And it’s just around the corner from one of Madrid’s little miracles: the eccentric and heartwarming community garden oasis, “Esta es una plaza”. The hotel itself is a smartly renovated older building with all modern conveniences, including generous walk-in shower, king bed with quality mattress and linens, flat screen tv, A/C, in-room safe, and more. Decor is bright and white, with smart lighting (gooseneck bedside lamps included). The breakfast room is pleasant and spacious, and the breakfast generous. A highlight is the central staircase, which you might only want to use to go downstairs (the hotel has a lift); it features beautifully restored and finished solid plank treads that still have the contours from decades of use. Last, but not least, is the welcoming and friendly reception. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. We would not hesitate to return, or recommend.

I went 4 days to Madrid and stayed at the “Artrip Hotel”.
The location is great, a few meters from the Lavapies metro station (and typical bars/restaurants of Argumosa street), just behind the Reina Sofia museum and with Madrid points of interest within walking distance. It is an old family house refurbished into a hotel, modern with all essential commodities. Miguel Angel and his team did everything to ensure that I had a good stay and gave me lots of advice; before my arrival by email (how to get to the hotel: metro, train or taxi) and during my stay (points of interest, restaurants, bars, etc.). Also close to San Fernando market very animated during the WE !
A very good quality / price deal for a discovery stay. I was delighted and I highly recommend Artrip hotel.
Miguel Angel & Esther : thanks !!

This hotel enjoys an excellent location to visit the main attractions of the city on foot. It was a total success to choose this small boutique hotel in which every detail makes it special.
Despite being located in a central area the rest was optimal being the beds very comfortable and the room very quiet, without external noises.
Thanks to the whole team for your excellent treatment and so good recommendations of places to see and restaurants to try.
We'll be back! It has certainly been a great discovery.

Hotel totally recommended for the professionalism and kindness of its employees, for its location and comfort of the rooms without forgetting its unbeatable value for money. They gave us a room of a higher category than the one reserved. Thank you!

As a solo female traveller, I picked this hotel as a safe place during my visit aroudn the city. However, I would not give it 5 stars.
The location is really run-down. It is being regenereated however I did not feel very safe. You are a 15-20 minute walk or 1 metro stop from the centre (shops/sites); given the price, I would just stay in the centre.
Heavily overpriced. The room was fine and spacious, however the floor material is odd and there is an open bathroom in the living area. i.e. you step out of the shower into the living space and the sink is by the door. I think this would be extremely awkward if I were sharing a room with a friend.
The floor was a weird material throughout the room and bathroom. Not sure how this is cleaned, but made me feel wary particularly around the bathroom. I don't know why they didn't opt for tiles, but it feels odd.
Staff are friendly and nice but it is heavily overpriced.

+1
I was looking for a hotel in Madrid to spend a few days with my family and I was very pleasantly surprised. Very well communicated. One minute from the Lavapiés metro station. The rooms are spacious and everything is very correct. It has a seating area to have a coffee at any time and they give you free filtered water, which is appreciated. The receptionists are very friendly and care a lot about taking care of the details. We loved it
