Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

I had a pleasant stay. The hotel has a good location near Lavapies station; 10 minutes walk to Reina Sofia. 15 mins. Walk to el Prado/Thyssen. Very minimal reception floor. Three rooms per floor ( at least 1-5 floors) Free WiFi in the room and restaurant. The staff in general nice, polite and accommodating. The room was clean, fresh-looking, very minimal, no closest. One shower. Beds were comfortable , there is a fridge with free water, safety deposit box. There is a tea pot and fresh fruits available. Unfortunately being a light sleeper I ask for a quiet room away from streets. I got a fifth floor with street view and you can hear street noise, conversations, trash collection. Only drawback! If you choose to have breakfast in the hotel you will find great variety of breads,

Don't usually risk 2* hotels but this was fab. Super helpful staff, very well located near shops and subway. Lovely big room with really cool ensuite facilities. Comfortable bed. Highly recommend. Good supply of free in room water.

A warm welcome awaits when you walk in off the street to this little star of a hotel. Having spent some time searching for the right type of hotel this one stood out from the crowd. If you like friendly efficient staff that run a small hotel well then you won't go far wrong here. Our room which was a junior suite was large and well presented. Added touches such as water, fruit, wine and olives were very welcome. Hotel is in a good location under 15 mins to main square 0.7 away. Breakfast was more than ample. I would use this hotel again and will certainly recommend when putting together City breaks for clients.
