After being away from Madrid for well over 3 years, I was pleasingly surprised that the Artrip hadn't lost its touch. The rooms are realy nice, modern, and always super clean. Walking distant from several cultural landmarks, the location is perfect. That said, the attention to their clients is second to none. Miguel and Robert went out of their way to accomodate last minute changes in my travel plans. This attitude also shows in the front desk staff. They are always courteous, friendly, and ready to help. You just can help feeling among friends when you visit the Artrip.

Before I say anything else I must say how helpful and friendly Lena and Javier were, the two young receptionists who look after everyone. They do an excellent job and they are an asset to the hotel. The other good points are that the beds are comfortable, it's warm, there's plenty of hot water and it's generally quiet. However, the big negative for us was that the standard room we were in was very basic and lacked things we would normally take for granted. Apart from a hanging rail for shirts and trousers there wasn't one drawer or one shelf to put the rest of your belongings. The bedside table at one side was a silly little round thing with a reading light and a telephone on it but hardly any space to put a book and a pair of reading glasses. There wasn't anywhere in the shower to put a shampoo or conditioner other than on the floor. There was one hard chair at a little desk unit and a little stool but nowhere to sit comfortably. It felt that nobody had given any thought to the basics and it was all style but no substance. Breakfast was a totally self service affair in the small, windowless, rather drab breakfast/kitchen room at the back of the hotel. You helped yourself to cutlery and crockery and everything else. It was a simple breakfast but adequate. Our feeling was that if you were younger and passing through Madrid for a couple of nights and happy to live out of a backpack, then this would suit you fine. As an older couple staying for five nights, we wanted to unpack, settle in and feel comfortable. This isn't a bad hotel but it didn't suit us at all.

A nice hotel without the hustle and bustle of a large hotel and in a nice area of Madrid. Very friendly staff. The breakfast is excellent and for coffee lovers there is a good cup of coffee available at any time of the day.

Had a lovely stay at Artrip Hotel. Good location and the staff was very helpful. The room was basic but spacious and suited our needs. Free coffee machine all day. 20 minutes walk from Retiro Park, lots of restaurants around.

I unexpectedly traveled alone to Madrid from NYC (my traveling companion had all flights cancelled from NC to NYC and missed the flight) and was nervous about being overseas, alone, in a strange city. Roberto at the Artrip Hotel was fabulous! He made a room ready earlier than he had to, made sure I knew where to go when walking in the area, called me a taxi the next morning to go the train station, and answered every question I asked in detail. I felt very taken care of and will never forget his kindness. Thanks, Roberto! It was a great place to stay as well. Clean, attractive, and located walking distance to almost everything. I hope I can return sometime.

I booked at 1am to arrive the next morning. It was v. last minute, wanting to treat son before he left for uni, arrived to discover I'd booked for the following week and hotel was seemingly fully booked that night!!! Doh!! I looked at my son (crestfallen) but Fidel in reception is a man who can! Unfazed by the legitimate non-idiot guests waiting to check-in behind us, he calmly listened to my garbled 'explanation', made calls, checked computers and found us a small but perfect attic room. He charged us the same price as my booking and took care of all the paperwork. Obviously, Fidel is a keeper... above and beyond.... professional and warm... what's not to love?! I've actually written for dozens of luxury hotels around the world and i can tell you that getting this kind of service and a cool room that is well-designed and immaculately kept is priceless. I'll be back, obviously.

This was our third time at Artrip and there's a reason why we choose this little boutique hotel whenever we visit Madrid: its prime location in the heart of the lively Lavapies neighborhood and impeccable customer service are both consistently top-notch. Tons of things to do, see, eat, and drink are all are super short walking distance from the hotel (including the renowned Prado Museum and beautiful Retiro park), plus there are supermarkets right down the street so you can pick up snacks, drinks, whatever you need (or forgot!) and enjoy them in your room, which comes with a minifridge to keep everything nice and cool. The cappuccino in the dining room is some of the best we've ever had and it's always available, along with cookies, water, and chilled prosecco. Upon check-in, the front desk staff always takes the time to show you a map of the area and point out recommendations and tips, which we always appreciate no matter how often we visit this lovely city. The memory foam beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are air-conditioned and well-lit -- most rooms have a small terrace which we loved sitting out on and taking in the action of the streets below. There's a small lift that will take you up to your room, although the stairs are quite beautiful in their own right; really cool lighting and live edge wood treads make taking them a pleasure rather than just exercise :) Artrip is our hotel of choice in Madrid!

The hotel was amazing, it is worth more than two stars! Javier at check-in was great, very kind and helpful. The amenities and the room was great too, I got upgraded to a Junior suite and it was a really comfortable and quiet room. The Atocha station is a 10 minute walk and the neighbourhood was absolutely fine and friendly too.
