I have no doubt that this hotel was amazing 20 years ago. The stairs and entire architecture of the building are quite impressive. However, for the price paid (luckily, by my company, +200Euros for one single night), this hotel was disappointing. The furniture and bed covers were in an awful condition, the bath tub was disgustingly rusty (all over the...

I have stayed at this hotel several times for business trips and have enjoyed it, especially when staying in suite. There is a comfortable bed and a bathtub and a sofa and seating area with big windows looking out on the street. The bar next door has good gin and tonics and it's an easy walk to Retiro Park. The...

Need some renovation ( bed, pillows, Tv) Great location. Good staff, helpful. Clean. For the price I paid (98) I think there is not a bad option. Bathroom is not small, and clean. Could be rated 4 with a few details.

We've been staying at the GHV for years, usually in August on our way back to the US. The location is ideal if you have to return a rental car to the airport--a straight shot, no complications. It's also great for moving around Madrid: a taxi stand right outside the font door and a metro stop only a short walk...

I arrive after a 10 hour flight, I'm tired and it's really hot in the main lobby. The desk guy took like 30 minutes to give me my room, of course nobody helped me out with my luggage and I had to go up a lot of stairs with two big sized baggages. The room was small, old, the TV...

The location is very good. The bedroom was a junior suite, with a big bed. The value for price of this hotel is excellent. Both my family and I normally choose this hotel when travelling to madrid. It´s a classic.

Good location with friendly , helpful staff the Gran Hotel is a very traditional hotel. Building has an imposing facade and inside you can tell that once upon a time this was quite the place to stay. Stayed 2 nights and room was spacious and comfortable with a few niggles: - chair for the desk was saggy and I had...

Overall a very average hotel and expensive given the amenities. What your paying for is the location as very central to down town. Stayed in a room near the old and noisy elevator (ask for a room away from this before turning up). No air condition, I think they turn it off in October thinking it will be cold...wrong..it was...

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
