Neighborhood
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.

Stayed here for 2 nights with some friends for a short break! Hotel was just perfect, bathroom a little small but wasn’t an issue! Welcomed by a lovely Spanish lady she spoke good English and showed us to our room!

I was here for a couple of nights. It’s very cheap but I was surprised for the cleanliness, very very good. It’s in the district Chueca, close to the gran via and the main attractions of Madrid. The best if you look for something clean...More

This hostel is based in the Chueca district which we found out was in the gay area. There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars but the area itself is rather scruffy and I have never seen so much graffiti. We had a twin bedroom...More

On entering Chelo, I was greeted by a three floor climb in 100 degree heat, which I did, only to realise there was indeed a lift! My one bit of advice is to look past there stairs at what looks like a door way, it...More
