In city center. Close to all sites, hop on off bus stop etc. Convenient, but a very crowded part of the city Fair price. Helpful staff helped arrange tours. Breakfast was expensive at the hotel, better to go across the street or a nearby restraunt.

Room was very neat, clean, simple but functional, bathroom big for European standard, very clean and well maintained, shower glass was spotless. I chose the room facing Atocha street, plenty of light, there's 2 doors to the balcony, able to block most of the noice from the street. The breakfast is good, but a little expensive, wifi is 'fast'. Staff... More

I have to admit I wasn’t overly impressed by the Catalonia Puerta del Sol as 4* hotel. The good points, the location was absolutely perfect, it was clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. On the downside however, I was put into a small attic room on the top floor, which only had two small skylights, so meant it... More

Our room smelled like an old, dirty, rancid ashtray. Nice room, nice bed, nice bathroom, but what good is any of that if you can't sleep, coughing all night becasue of the cigarette smell? Until they make Catalonia hotels completely non-smoking, I'll stick with Hilton or Hyatt, or any other chain that values their guests' health.

I can't imagine a better hotel experience. We only stayed 2 nights, but wished we could stay more, if only because of this hotel. The front desk was super friendly and helpful. Our room was meticulously clean and included a Nespresso, which was an excellent touch. The balcony view was great as well. The wifi was super fast.

Great location, closed to train station and many other area. Room is very big, bathroom as well. We got a room facing street, with two layers windows on the balcony, you don't hear any noise from the street below.

Dear pclee2016, We want to thank you for your lines about the location and the room. The rooms facing Atocha street are very quiet because they have a double window to avoid the noisy. We really hope to see you again in the hotel in your next trip to Madrid. Yours sincerely, Ángela Rodríguez More

Wasn't a bad experience, but wasn't a great one either. The room smelled like cigarette smoke and the air conditioner didn't work well. So we were forced to upgrade (extra 20 EUR/ night) to the remodeled room. Remolded room was nice but smelled like paint and the air conditioner still didn't work that well. Other than that it's a very... More

Hotel is in a historical building, excellent food and service. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was quiet and comfortable. Just 15 min walk from Prado museum and the heart of the city Plaza Mayor.

Dear Miroslav73, We want to thank you for your lines about the staff, the location and the facilities and services. Yes, you are right, the hotel is on a building of 200 years ago (palace of 18th century) and it preserves the magnificent structure of the building made in wood and granite. Once again, thank you for dedicating your time.... More

We took a nice big room with a balcony, which was very clean and comfortable. Though the hotel is situated in the centre of the city, it was pretty quiet, so our stay there was really fortunate. Everything is close, that's always important for me, because all the time in my travel I want to spend on watching sightseeings, walking... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
