A well presented traditional city hotel. Efficient and clean with a helpful and friendly staff. Almost everywhere in the city is within walking distance. Taxis, the Metro and Tourist buses are all convenient.

We chose this hotel by reference to its location and Tripadvisor rating. The location is indeed perfect, 50 m from Sol and the coresponding Metro. All important Madrid sites (e.g. museums, places, palace) are within walking distance from the hotel. Facilities of the hotel are just ok, nothing fancy. Thr personel was very nice with the exception of the maids...

Receptionists were all polite and professional with good English. Some better than others and with my awful Spanish, if we were struggling the receptionist would call for a colleague with better English. We got excellent advice about getting across to Chamartin Station for our trip to Segovia too. The room wasn't huge , but a decent enough size, clean and...

Booked the hotel Europa only two days in advance via TripAdvisor. Hotel is being completely renovated; nearly finished now. A new, nice , modern and very large room. A beautiful large bathroom with rain shower. Big screen TV and free WiFi. My room was facing the square Puerta de Sol. Note this is a busy downtown square, you cannot sleep...

Pros: Excellent location near metro and shopping, good wifi, nice bathrooms Cons: Can't control thermostat, paper- thin walls, refrigerator doesn't work Not a dad stay but not very flexible living grocery store down street but no place to store food. DONT get continental breakfast- it's just bread and OJ. Save your $$ and buy something good.

Not a posh hotel but in an excellent location. Walking distance to many major tourist spots. Missing basics in room such as tissues, clock, and water. Wifi is terrific! The staff is all helpful and kind. Would stay here again knowing what I need.

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights in October. The staff was always friendly, helpful and professional. They spoke very good English, as our Spanish hadn't been used for about 45 years. Our room was right on Puerta del Sol, which gave us an excellent view of everything. Overlooking the square can be a bit loud, but it wasn't...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
