I gave this hotel 5 stars because of the location. We loved it. It puts you right in the center of the old part of the city. I say old, but it is anything but. There are so many restaurants, stores and sights within an easy 20 min. walking circle, it makes it hard to choose where to go first.... More

The Hotel Europa is in a great location for central Madrid touring. The rooms were modern, well equipped, and comfortable. You stay here for the location, not the extra amenities. The hotel was modern, efficient and clean. Hot water was plentiful and the towels and linens were good. The service was very good, and the outside seating provided a good... More

The hotel is in a fantastic location - right in the heart of the city and next to the metro. It is very easy to get back to no matter where you are. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant attached to it is good and very convient.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights with our 7 month old son. I booked directly with the hotel and their communication back and forth was exceptional. When we checked in (at 930 am) they provided us our room immediately and even gave a little toy for my son to play with for his visit. The room was very comfortable,... More

Hotel Europa was an absolutely awesome way for us to kick off our trip to Spain to celebrate our 20-year wedding anniversary. The location is perfect -- easy walking distance to all kinds of restaurants, shops and bars -- we even walked to see Flamenco one night! We had a room with two balconies overlooking Puerta de Sol. It was... More

We got a good deal on a room for a few nights while getting over jet lag. As requested, we had a room on an inner courtyard: no view, but no street noise either (we could hear people in the adjoining room, though). The style of furnishings was a bit old-fashioned but fine: not a lot of storage. Bed was... More

Hotel Europa is well-located to all the tourist sights. Front desk service and courtesy is outstanding. Spain's biggest department store a few feet away is a bonus. Plaza del Sol is the center of Spain and the center Madrid and is only fifty feet from the hotel. Our room 217 was quiet and clean but needs bath soap that is... More

The location of the hotel was central to many sites. The room, however, was minimally furnshed and could use updating. The bathroom was acequate and the staff upon checking in were very helpful. We had previously stayed at another hotel in a similar area and had better accomdations at a better price.

The location is fantastic. It is within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The staff is helpfull, the hotel seems a little tired though. I havent tried the breakfast as we had to leave early. The pillows were not very confortable although there was a choice.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
