All what you view is too dirty, sewerage is clogged and when you shower your legs is in the water. Wall is very dirty a lot big bugs and you afraid when you sleep, you must close your luggage. Bed is close dirty wall and you afraid to touch with face when you sleep. After complaints staff show me all... More

Clean but small rooms. The location was great though so we got to enjoy the nearby cafes and restaurants and bars very much..especially on the night Real Madrid won the Champions League title. The whole city seemed to be awake all night. Would have been great if the rooms were bigger. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Stayed for a long weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. It was clean and comfortable and very central which was fantastic. I would definitely recommend. We were fortunate having a room at the front of the hostel which had a small balcony I understand from other guests that not all rooms were like ours.

Ideal location for Madrid Marathon 2016. Four of us stayed Friday to Monday, compact rooms but very clean. Excellent maid service. Literally minutes away from Plaza Mayor, metro links etc. Our twin bed room was larger than double bed room and had small balcony. Would recommend. 24hr reception. wifi not always working in rooms. To note, hostal on the 3rd... More

This is a low budget hotel very well located next to the Plaza Mayor. We have stayed there before but this time we got a surprisingly large and very comfortable room. This place is a bargain and I am always going to stay there when in Madrid.

Hostal has primarily a perfect location right next to the Plaza Mayor. Our room was very small but sufficient for an overnight stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had problems with the original wifi, but the staff allowed us to connect to the reception wifi. I can definitely recommend, mainly because of the cleanliness and location.

The staff were very helpful and seemed to speak a number of languages. The rooms were small, but very clean. Note that air conditioning is an extra charge...something you may want to consider as not only can it be very warm in Madrid, but the hostel is on the 3rd floor (good but small elevator) and because it is very... We have stayed in Hostal Tijcal for 2 nights. The room was clean but very small. The hotel is near the city centre, the location is great and the staff has been very helpful and they knew a little English compared with the other people in the city. Book this hotel only for the location, in my opinion is a... More

My daughter and I wanted to stay for three-four days in the centre of Madrid and near the famous museums. I found this little hostal and they claimed it was only 50 meters from Plaza Mayor. Well, well I said. To my big surprise it was right!! We had our breakfasts there every morning, even if the hostal served as... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
