Loved this hotel. The location just minutes from the Plaza Mayor and Puerta Del Sol was idyllic and the hotel itself was beautiful and the staff very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return to this hotel on my next trip to Madrid.

We chose this hotel based on the good reviews however I don't agree with them. The location is very good, just a few minutes walk from plaza major and la Latina underground. However the room itself was very shabby. The white walls were filthy with all sorts of stains and the furniture was bashed and scratched. We weren't given any... More

We divided our party between this Hotel and an apartment due to the proximity of each other. We were really impressed by the amazing food both at the Lobby and the Restaurant. Rooms are somehow small but with ingenious and clever interior design to maximize space and avoid making you feel claustrophobic (ours did not have windows). Super quite ,... More

Recently spent 3 nights at this hotel end of June / beginning of July. Couldn't have asked for a better location. The street that we were based is famous for its tapas bars, few minutes stroll from the famous food market and not too further you have the palace and city centre. The rooms were elegantly styled with a modern... More

Great location, friendly staff, and close to many attractions. Easy walk to Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel, Puerta del Sol and multiple metro stops (Sol and Tirso de Molina). Rooms were nice, small but adequate space, modern decor and great shower. It was nice that there was a full size hairdryer provided so converter not needed for everything. We had... More

As frequent visitors to Madrid, we chose this hotel as it was near the theatre Nuevo Apolo (five minutes walk). It was the first time we had stayed here. On the recommendation of other reviewers we chose a room with a balcony at the front of the hotel, and I too would recommend these rooms as there is natural light.... More

It is easy to miss the entrance to this wonderful boutique hotel because it looks as if you are entering a restaurant, which you are. But there is a small counter for the hotel past the bar. You then walk past some tables to get to the elevator. When you get off the elevator, you are in another world. The... More

We were drawn to this accomodation because it's a unique history building in the heart of Madrid with a small number of rooms. Having a one year old child made us wonder if we could stay here as many of the reviews commented on the high noise levels, we considered other bland large hotels further out but then selfishly decided... This tapas bar/restaurant/botique hotel provides a unique experience in the very heart of old Madrid, combining an ultra modern facility in a centuries old Posada, or travellers inn. The tapas bar has delicious, artistic tapas. The restaurant has an great wine list and a fabulous menu. The rooms, above the restaurant, are completely modern and comfortable, though a little small.... More

Staying in La Latina

Neighborhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighborhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighborhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Boutique Hotel & Bar in the city centre in Madrid. The Posada del Dragon was built as a local barn. Its name comes from the mythical dragon that guarded over the area of “Puerta Cerrada”. And in 1868 was converted as a guesthouse by the Marques de Cubas. The story tells that traders, handsome swordsmen and loyal squires were accommodated here. It is also located in one of the most popular areas in Madrid city called 'La Latina'. Posada del Dragon is situated only 100 metres from Plaza Mayor and 700 metres from Puerta del Sol. Only 1500 metres away you can find Prado Museum, Thyssen Bornemisza Museum and Reina Sofia Museum. Almudena´s Cathedral, Royal Palace and Plaza de Oriente are located 800 metres away. ... more   less
