As a whole, this property is excellent. My family and I stayed here for one week in April 2022. We stayed in a two bedroom suite on the sixth floor, which was clean, comfortable, and had great views of the Plaza Colon. Amenities were stocked well and things were replenished well daily (expected, but often not delivered in hotels). We were also given access to a lounge on the seventh floor that served breakfast each day and snacks, which was a fun break from sightseeing. Elevators are very slow and small, but that is to be expected of a hotel this age. The location is decent, but not amazing. You are at least 0.7 kms from all the major sightseeing, so be prepared for 25 minute walks each way or use the metro. The reason why this hotel did not earn a 5/5 was because of what happened on the final day of our trip. When we returned, there was a leak in the ceiling dripping water into one of the rooms. It turned out that the water was coming from a terrace jacuzzi and that it was not fixable. We were moved to a lower quality room (same layout, but lower quality) on the first floor (note to hotels: never downgrade your guest). The staff also seemed unapologetic and did not offer any compensation for our trouble. This left us with a sour taste in our mouth and ruined what could have otherwise been an extremely enjoyable stay. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel, but there are definitely other solid options out there too.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Gran Melia Fenix. We preferred the location - a bit away from the heavy tourist traffic. It’s a short walk from Retiro Park, which was ideal for a morning run. We are an active family, so the walk to the city center was not an issue. The rooms were VERY clean. We had two rooms that connected with a little corridor between the two. The bathroom was a bit small, but not in a problematic way. The beds were comfy. They provided one adapter for US plugs. The staff was EXCELLENT. The breakfast was fabulous, with a lot of choices (I miss those yummy scrambled eggs!!!). I’m honestly perplexed by some of the negative reviews - when we travel to Europe we love to stay in older hotels that have the history and character that the Gran Melia Fenix holds. Thank for a delightful stay!!!!

Never back to this horrible hotel, to be honest, this luxury hotel is very beautiful and confortable, the service is perfect BUT some employees are thieves, they stole me from the room and from my bag 400€ and when I claimed nothing was done, they ignored my multiple complaints while there are cameras and they can check who is entering the room. it was a horrible stay because after this situation we no longer feel safe. it is not normal that such a hotel like this employs thieves and does nothing to help a customer.

Lovely location but I'll never stay here again. I understand it's an old hotel but there's old and there' s Joan Collins old. Like the lovely Joan, I'm sure this hotel was once beautiful and full of life but no matter how much make-up you put on, it's still better in the pictures than in real life. Also, the rooms are super small and even after rejecting the first 3 rooms we were offered, the final one (which was the recently refurbished one) was cramped and very, very average. BTW, we only accept this room because it was for a single night and it was mid-afternoon. One the plus side, the staff were amazing, helpful and lovely. The bar area was filled with a noisy family of 12 watching football and being selfish. However, the cocktail bar we retired to was just about perfect. In summary, it's nicely located for the nice shops, it's tiny, overpriced and dated but the staff are nice. There is so much better out there.

Visited this hotel for a long weekend. Everything about our time there was excellent. The comment a few reviews earlier about the location being poor is utterly laughable. Getting around Madrid is so quick and easy. This hotel is fabulously located. Our initial check in was easy, our room (529) was wonderful and the bar and restaurant on the Red Level (floor 7) terrific. Every meal was of the highest quality. However the most impressive part of the stay were the helpfulness and friendliness of EVERY staff member. My partner and I loved being acknowledged by the staff and the hand movement to their hearts indicating “I care”… and without question they ALL do. Our stay was of the highest quality in a wonderful city. Thank you for making our stay so special ☺️

We used the Fenix as our landing pad for a trip to Madrid, Valencia and Toledo. Very friendly, accommodating and communicative staff, very nice room with excellent facilities, and some nice little extras from AMEX Platinum booking, which wasn't always on offer from other places we stayed.

Fantastic location , service and room quality. The staff at the hotel were very attentive, the breakfast buffet offers great choice, quality and top notch service. The location is great, just off Plaza Colón and P. De la Castellana right there in Serrano where you can find the best stores and restaurants in Madrid.

This hotel is NOT in the heart of Madrid, from a tourist perspective. The walk to the Prado is about 30 min, as is the walk to old town. It isn't a bad commute, but it takes a while. It is in a trendy neighborhood with a lot of restaurants and shopping, so don't think that it's in the middle of nowhere. The staff is very helpful and the executive lounge is nice. The place has a bunch of odors. There are cleaning fluid smells in the hallways. The lobby and the room smelled a bit old and musty. The rooms themselves (we had an upgraded one) are cramped, even though the square footage isn't bad. There are just too many doors and separate areas. Most of the doors don't close completely and are showing their age. The rooms are quiet, for a city hotel. The bed is pretty comfortable.

We stayed four nights in the Salamanca neighborhood at the Hotel Fenix Gran Melia. What a lovely hotel. The staff are warm-hearted and very helpful. The on-site breakfast is incredible -- a huge buffet with drinks and an enormous variety of food for all tastes. We also had drinks in the main bar and the service staff are friendly and eager to please. The hotel is not super well-located to the main tourist sites -- But I like that! Instead, the hotel is nestled in a quieter neighborhood further from the huge numbers of tourists. At this hotel, evenings are quiet. The local neighborhood has upscale shops and restaurants. Plus, if you want to visit the tourist areas it is only a quick and inexpensive bus ride (no. 53 to Sol-Sevilla, or no. 14 to Prado/Reina Sofia) to the main tourist areas. The room was well-appointed with Clairins bath products. The hotel has 4 elevators so you never need to wait for a lift. The wi-fi is also good. Overall, I was very happy with the hotel.

We were really pleased that we booked this hotel for our anniversary weekend in Madrid. I honestly cannot fault it. Check in was effortless with welcoming, friendly staff. Comfy beds and impeccably clean rooms. Beautiful decor throughout the hotel rooms and a good choice at breakfast. The location is amazing, right by the museum, park and shopping areas, tons of restaurants nearby. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Madrid. Try the Thai Spa and restaurant on the 7th floor!
