A huge thank you to the reception and concierge team for making our stay so fabulous! My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Francisco I for a 4-night stay and can't say enough about this boutique hotel. From the moment we arrived until we departed, we were treated royal. An absolutely charming property 300m from the heart of Madrid's city... More

You walk into this place through an unprepossessing door, with a pretty cheap look sign outside and your heart sinks: a non-descript lobby that seems to justify it's 2-star rating... And yet... once you get past the lobby you realise that all the traveller reviews can't be wrong – this place truly is a hidden gem or a Pandora's box... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night. For the price we paid, it was beyond excellent. This is a 2 or 3 star hotel so I didn't expect much of service but I was so wrong. Receptionist and bellboy were so nice and helpful. We took a taxi from ALSA bus station and to Madrid airport. It was... More

Hey, I stayed in a king bed on the 2nd floor right above the street. This hotel has an amazing location. Really close distance to Sol, so its easy to find if you are new the the city or dont speak very good spanish. The staff was great. Rooms were very clean!

The hotel is really well located, in the heart of Madrid's old city, great for sightseeing. It's a pedestrian street, so taxis can only drop guests nearby, but it's just a short walk, and it means there's no traffic noise. The decor is simple, clean and modern, with a veranda looking out on the streets. The bathroom was pleasant, modern... More

Myself & my husband stayed for one night for our wedding anniversary. I'd asked for a quiet room with a double bed and both wishes were granted - we were given a room on the top floor at the back of the hotel. Madrid is quite a loud city, so I was very grateful for this! Check in was easy... More

Booked this hotel following the reviews I had read on Tripadvisor and so glad we did. The hotel is lovely, rooms are modern and very clean although the room we were allocated was too open plan for my liking. The bathroom and bedroom were separated by a dividing wall which was open on both ends and no door for privacy,... More

At first sight, Hotel Francisco I doesn´t look like much. Small entrance in a pedestrian street. But as you go in, the friendly reception, the very confortable rooms and, most of all, the location will make you want to go back every time.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
