Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Right on Gran Via close to Plaza de España yet we were not disturbed by noise at all. The hotel is comfortable, friendly and functional. The rooms and fixtures are a little dated but price is good. Buffet breakfast is reasonably priced and perfectly adequate.

Hotel had a very good offer via booking.com but probably someone realised it was too cheap, so rather than honor the reservation they made up a story that 2 given cards did not work. (all via booking msg not responding to direct email). Very poorly handled even if someone made a pricing mistake, its not customer's fault.

The location is really great, right on the main business. The rooms are nice There is a nice kitchen with microwave and stove, no tea pot. There are stairs without elevator, until you get the elevator its like 10-15 stairs if i recall. In our room the water went from warm to cold in the shower, and i told the guy in the lobby but nothing was fixed.

We visited this hotel at the end of November on a trip to see the Christmas lights and do some shopping. This hotel is perfectly located towards the bottom of the Gran Via and ideal for visiting many places of interest and shopping. An old building, it is narrow and on many floors all accessed by lifts. I noticed on several reviews the comments on how many stairs there were to reception which is on the first floor.....do not be put off by this, there is a dedicated lift from the entrance which only serves the first floor and reception. The dining room and bar, also on the first floor, is quite small but the breakfast they serve is wonderful. Buffet style, with lots of choice and regularly topped up. From my personal experience the staff in both reception and the dining room are friendly and helpful and for those who need, also speak English. Although some of the fittings were a bit "tired" the rooms were well appointed, clean and warm with a mini kitchen, large bathroom, telephone, tv and large comfortable bed. There was a constant supply of hot water. In reception there is a large variety of leaflets and maps to help find your way around. Overall a very pleasant, conveniently situated, reasonably priced hotel where I would certainly stay again and would recommend..

Bedroom: Ok, big and comfortable. Heat working perfectly. Bathroom: the cleaning wasnt great, and the shower didnt work properly (it swifted by itself from hot to cold water) Breakfast: poorly clean, not enough choices, it wasnt very tasteful. I strongly do not recommend to include breakfast in your stay. Location: ok, close to subway and plaza del callao. Walking distance to puerta del sol and plaza mayor.
