Very good location for a first visit in Madrid. You can do everything on foot. The area is pretty lively as there are many shops around but you do not go to the centre of Madrid to find peace and quiet. The breakfast is very good and all stuff quite helpful.

The hotel is in a very central location and is extremely comfortable and welcoming. We didn't use the restaurant as were visiting friends for meals most of the time. However, we went to the cafeteria several times and loved it! The food and service were brilliant and, wonder of wonders, we had the best tea there that we have ever...

As many reviewers have said before this hotel has an excellent location. Let's say that it is in the middle of triangle comprising Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and El Callao. So the metro or subway gets very convenient. We have found an excellent price - quality realtion. We stayed at classic room with a view to a Church (Our...

The location is absolutely perfect for tourism, one hundred metres form the Plaza del Sol (big metro hub, by the way) and close to the Gran Via. The hotel is a luxury, old fashion building properly refurbished. The hall, restaurant and bar are awesome, very high level. Our room was rather small, but well equipped and offerng good comfort: just...

Central location, reasonable price, friendly staff, you always feel welcome, clean rooms. This was the fourth visit to Madrid, and the fourth stay at Liabeny. And I'm quite sure we will use Liabeny for the visits to come. If you include some egg and bacon for breakfast, the four stars will be five.

Everything about this hotel was great. We stayed there for 3 nights over weekend. The location is perfect and even though there was some noise outside on the first night it did not disturb us.You cannot expect to go to Spain without hearing someone partying!!! The room was fine, clean and well equipped but the bathroom was in need of an update. The...

In late October I stayed at the Hotel Liabeny which is well positioned in the heart of Madrid, close to the Gran Via and Plaza Puerta del Sol where Metro stations are located. I found it easy enough to travel between the airport and the hotel with my luggage, on the subway. Within easy walking distance are ample restaurants and...

Nice and clean room, fine breakfast, good rate for a real value. 2 min. walk to Puerta del Sol or Gran Via, 15 min. to the Prado or Palacio Real. The staff is nice and doing the best but it is a real problem when they speak no languege but Spanish. One day we found a note on the mirror...

The hotel is across from a cathedral and despite the insistence of the hotel, we heard construction noise all night long. In addition to that, there is the problem with Spaniards drinking and then singing in the streets all night long. I don't know what you can do about that. With that said, however, the hotel is very clean and...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
