We stayed there 3 nights. I knew the hotel was known to be quite old and the only reason I booked there was because of their swimming pool as it can be very hot in Madrid in July.

Stayed for a weekend break - Madrid was great. The hotel could have been so much better. It's really old fashioned, good condition - but old fashioned. This shows the most in the service which needs a refresh, everyone was friendly but we found simple...More
It's our second time at the Wellington Hotel. It's excellent, wonderful location, friendly staff, plenty of tradition.
Will recommend for sure! Family Friendly, has a pool, restaurant with an amazing chef who prepared last night a delicious paella for us!
The Wellington is directly above the Madrid Retiro Park. The walk to the Retiro metro station was easy. The hotel is one of the few hotels in downtown Madrid with a large pool. The restaurant and room service were excellent. Though they aren't on the...More
Lets start with the bad: front desk need to be more friendly and helpful, the rooms (deluxe) are on the small size for the price, non existing concierge. The good: location is very convinient, club level worth the added cost and the staff is excellent,...More

Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of
opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.

So sorry for my delayed response, but here goes...EL Paraguay is wonderful restaurant and a five minute walk from the hotel. It is small and requires a reservation. The telephone is 91 431 58 40. We also had a great dining experience at Quintin, which is across the street from the first. Concierge can direct you to either restaurant. Happy Anniversary.
