An old world hotel with very courteous and helpful staff. Food quality is very good, the bedroom (smoking) was very dated with sanitary ware from the early 70's era, however, it was in no way dysfunctional.

Great hotel, excellent location. Stayed at the club level. Very good food. The only comment will be the size of the rooms.... A little bit on the small side. It has amazing service and staff very friendly. I would stay there again no questions asked.

We had a Superior Room with a walk-out terrace on the Wellington Club level. The room was spacious and well appointed. The Wellington Club gives you access to a private lounge where you can get complimentary soda, champagne, and assorted canapes. The hotel caters to an older well-heeled crowd. I thought it was a great value with extensive breakfast buffet... More

Typically small European rooms by American standards, but very nicely appointed and immaculately maintained by an energetic, courteous , and competent staff. Absolutely loved it as did my 93 year old mother, who shared the room. In a very nice neighborhood next to Retiro Park and walking distance, even for Mom, to most of the major attractions Warning: Mom can... More

The Wellington hotel was absolutely fabulous hotel. Our room was old style decor but we loved it. Room was facing the pool and had a small terrace and all the luxury Amenities we could ask for. Service was VERY attentive and like a 5 stars hotel should be. I recommend to take the breakfast - it is very rich buffet... More

We had driven to Madrid from Seville and got into Madrid during the late afternoon. Madrid is huge and we found our way successfully to the hotel. The hotel is in a lovely part of the city. Check-in was efficient, they showed us where to park our car (fee to park). Our rooms overlooked the street and were of decent... More

During our visit to Madrid, we had the good fortune to stay at Hotel Wellington. One word: luxury. The crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows by the stairwells, and the artwork in the open areas on each floor all bring elegance and beauty to the surroundings. Breakfast buffets were delicious, as was the final dinner that our tour group enjoyed in... More

The Wellington has done a first-class job of transforming what used to be a rather tired property whose glory days -- as the bullfighters' choice -- were pretty much behind it. Apparently refurbishment is still going on, but even the old rooms, as one reviewer has mentioned, are very good indeed. The service is excellent. And overall the hotel already... More

This is a beautiful upscale property in the heart of Madrid. The tour we were on considered themselves casual. However, I was grateful that I threw in a few dressier pieces and heels to wear in the evening. This property warranted nicer clothing. Our room (thankfully) was on the backside of the property away from the main street. It was... More

We stayed at the hotel back in September. We had booked the room as part of a 'Lastminute.com' package. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted in a really friendly manner and we also noted that the lobby and surrounding area had a real touch of class about it. All of the facility rooms, corridors had that air of... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
