This is one of my favorite hotels now. An Old-School hotel. In a world of stripped-down, sleek, cheaply-appointed, and boring hotels where one hotel looks like any other, this hotel stands out with her hold on what luxury hotels used to be like. Everything is in excellent condition. The general impression of everything - the doors, the furniture, the walls - is "Solid, luxurious, old-guard permanence." Quiet, carpeted hallways with paintings, sculpture, wallpaper, and flower arrangements. In your room, you cannot hear any noise from the hallway or other rooms. Beautifully appointed, and up-to-date without being "sterilized" to look like every other hotel on the market. The rooms are quiet, large, and well appointed. Solid doors on large closets. Carpeted, clean, well-appointed rooms. The bathrooms are beautiful, large, modern, and filled with mirrors and marble. The shower was huge, and had glass doors that actually completely closed off the shower, so no water filled the rest of the bathroom (like in every other hotel I've been in recently). The hotel is appointed with sculptures and paintings and sitting areas on the terrace level, like hotels used to be, but still with the modern touches one looks for in hotels today. The rooftop terrace is beautiful, and a great escape to be outside but above the bustle of Madrid. The staff was excellent. They are fast and efficient, yet friendly. Professionals. The location is spectacular. On the Gran Via, within walking distance of virtually everything you'd want to see and do. The best of the old, with the best of the modern. In short, The Hotel Atlantico is what a hotel SHOULD be. This is now the only place I shall stay when I am in Madrid. …
