Although it is not a high standard hotel the rooms are spacious enough, fairly clean and reception is open 24 hrs. Location is ideal if you want to stay close to "everything". La Gran Via Ave is only few steps from the building as well as other important landmarks in the city. Price is fair considering the location.

Fourth stay at Hostal Regio and won't be my last. Great value for money, very central location. Comfortable, if small, rooms. Bathrooms a little tight. I love what's on offer for the price and I'll be back. A few steps from Gran Via and a few minutes from Puerta del Sol, this is an ideal base to explore Madrid. Enjoy!

This is a great choice if you are looking for a hostel in Madrid. It's location is great, it is clean, modern, lovely rooms with nice bathrooms and decoration. There is great attention to detail! The only problem which became a big problem is the door bell...our room was far from the entrance area around a corner...and we could still...

Going up to the third floor of a building at the centre of the city, one would not expect hostel Regio to be this plush. It looks like a hotel! Spotless clean, great interiors and a very helpful staff. They struggled to communicate in English, but used an app to help us in airport bookings among others. We stayed in...

The hostal is very cheap for the location and perfectly clean. Breakfast is not included, but that's perfect in Madrid as there are so many great bars and cafés for that. The room got a little hot and the towels weren't great. I also got woken up by people coming in and out. I used to live in Madrid so...

I stayed at this hostel for 4 days in late August and found it to be a very comfortable place to stay and great value for money seeing as its location was right in the heart of Madrid's vibrant night life and restaurant district. The staff were very friendly and my room was cleaned most days. The only problem I...

We chose Hostal Regio mainly because of the location. It is just a couple of minutes from Puerta del Sol and immediately connected to Gran Via. It has a 24-hour reception, the staff were friendly. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis which was a great plus. The wireless connection worked perfectly. The room wasn't the biggest one, but...

Right on the doorstep to the Gran Via, and a couple minutes away from Puerta del Sol, the hostel is situated at the very heart of Madrid. The majority of the attractions are within walking distance, and several metro stations are very close by. Despite being there during the New Year festivities, the value was great, the bed comfortable, and...

The Good Great location steps from the metro and right in the thick of things. Small, well decorated, rooms with en suite baths, flat screen TVs, and comfortable beds. Someone is always around to buzz you in. We found the rooms to ample in size for the two of us. The Bad Not all of the staff speak English. My...

As other reviewers have mentioned the room is quite small - but at the prices we paid we can't complain. We stayed for 5 nights. The location is perfect - we walked everywhere from the Hostal, and the rare times we need to catch the metro it was an easy 5 minute walk. The cleaning is perfect, our room was...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

“A room far the the reception..the door bell is loud and people come back past 2AM....”

“The Ugly Regarding the area. We went to a local joint, Bar Sidi, where one of two things happened: The ATM machine from a national bank spat out a counterfeit note which the staff behind the bar "caught." This is certainly possible. Or the people behind the bar decided to take advantage of a couple of tourists who they thought were more under the table than we actually were. Either way, watch your butt.”
